points to a promising August report on growth in the
U.S. manufacturing sector. Obama says steps the
government have taken to help the economy
rebound are working.
• A massive wildfire continues to spread near Los
Angeles, but a fire commander says crews are
starting to get a handle on it. Firefighters have set
backfires and removed brush with bulldozers.The
flames have already destoryed 53 homes.
• Hurricane Jimena (hee-MAY'-nuh) has weakened
slightly but remains a Category Four storm as it
closes in on Mexico's Baja California peninsula. The
centre of the storm is on course to pass west of Los
Cabos late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
• Michelle Duggar is pregnant again. The 42-year-old
Arkansas mum is expecting her 19th child. She's also
gearing up to become a grandmother for the first
time. Her oldest son and his wife are expecting their

States increased fourteen percent
this year. This is the biggest increase
in tuition in thirty years. But the
study also found that the average
student pays a lot less than the
published costs of a college
education, because of grants. And it
points out that American students
received a record amount of financial
aid last year.
• Students do not have to repay
grants, unlike financial aid in
the form of loans. About half of
American college students
receive grants. This means that
education costs differ from
student to student.
