COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this class students will build upon the basic knowledge that they already have of the
Spanish language. They will continue to develop their vocabulary and grammar skills
and they will also begin to use more complex tenses and structures. We will cover
present tense, past tense and all of their irregular forms, future tense and conditional
tense and all or their irregular forms. The class will focus on grammer, reading and
writing. We will be having interactive classes where students will have many
opportunities to practice their vocabulary and speaking skills. Authentic materials will be
used in order to gain more exposure to the language in its most natural form and
setting. We will also be incorporating technology into the classroom to enhance
participation. Students will be listening to podcasts and music and watching movies and
television in Spanish to hear real accents and dialogue. Students will be expected to
participate on a daily basis. Participation is a huge part of being successful in Spanish 2.

GRADES
Grades in Spanish 2 will will be based on a variety of assignments. Students will have
interactive class activities, vocabulary quizzes and grammar exams as well as cultural
activities that they complete in class. At the end of each term the students will have
Projects and portfolios. They also will be writing journal entries in Spanish.

Parents and students can check their grades online on Aspen. Please check your grades
often, it keeps you aware of where you stand and it keeps me accountable to post your
grades on time.
MUSIC DAYS , PROJECTS and PORTFOLIOS
Once a month we will have a music day. On this day we will listen to several songs by a
pre-selected artist. The class will participate in several activities that introduce them to
music from Spanish speaking artists, such as listenining and identifying vocabulary
words, putting lyrics in order and translating lyrics.
Projects
Some of the projects you will work on include researching latin american countries and
customs, latin american tribes living before the Spanish conquest. These projects will
help you learn to work effectively in groups or on your own. They will also teach you
valuable time management skills.
Portfolios
At the end of each term a portfolio outline will be handed out with a list of assignments
that must be collected and placed in a folder for grading. Some of these assignments
will be new or projects and others will be test and quizzes that were handed out during
the term (they must be corrected when handing them back to receive full credit).
ATTENDANCE & TARDINESS POLICY
Students are required to be in class on time. This means they must be in their seats,
prepared with all necessary materials and ready to work when class begins.
Any students who arrive after the class start time will be marked as tardy.
If you were sick or absent, you are responsible for any missed work. I am expecting you
to be respnsible for making up all missed assignments. I will accept late
assignments up to one week after the due date.
After successfully completing this course, the student will ..
1. Review or pronunciation, vocabulary, basic grammar structures
2. Review common sentence structures (statements, questions, negatives, etc.)
3. Practice more complex grammar structures (past tense forms and uses, future tense,
direct objects, reflexive verbs, etc.)
4. Exand and improve vocabulary
5. Develop and improve reading, writing and speaking skills
6. Journal writing
7. In-depth cultural topics
8. Demonstrate knowledge and proper usage of the Spanish language within and
beyond the school settings.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
*All Expectations in the student handbook apply to this class.
*No Gum or food in the classrooms! (except when there is a food project or party in
class
*If you are not clear about an activity, assignment or teaching point, please ask right
away.
* Listen attentively to the teacher and other students when they speak.
*Electronics (cell phones and ipods) must be turned off and out of sight during class
time. Phones that ring or are in use during class time are subject to confiscation and will
be turned in to the Dean of Students! No headsets in the classroom.
*The classroom needs to be neat and clean at the end of each period. Please help pick
up trash, even if it isn't yours… 
