Council Committees Reports:
a. Financial Report Highlights: Jen M (treasurer)
We have $12,199.40 in our account. This includes the money from the move-a-thon for the playground.
The board has agreed to put another $12, 500 from the board towards the playground.
There is approx. $3,000 in the Waterloo Education Fund I account which has been earmarked for the playground.
Jen also provided a projected budget for next year.
b. Fun Fair: Derek
The fun fair will take place June 6th, 2013
Sue Karai offered to organize and manage the cake walk, alongside Erica H.
Karen M. offered to organize and manage a silent auction. Any price donation for the silent auction would be greatly
appreciated.
c. Grade 6 Farewell: Heather Dalzilio
Council usually supplies the refreshments and snacks for after the ceremony. The ceremony takes place June 18 in
from 11am to 1pm. Catherine and Derek offered to help set up. Heather passed a motion for $150.00 for the
refreshments. Bettina seconded. Unanimous.
d. Magazine Fundraising: Bettina W
Magazine Fundraising is down about 10% from last year. However, the campaign does not require any fee and is
relatively low maintenance. Bettina offered to continue managing this initiative. She suggested to continue the
campaign online only without the paper registration. Bettina made the motion to continue the magazine campaign.
Seconded by Shannon. Unanimous.
e. WRAPSC Report: Shannon
Dennis Wedland presented different greening projects that he can help schools set up.
The WRSB is seeking input from parents and school councils on parent and community engagement (e.g., pic). The
board has developed a survey that is available at http://www.wrdsb.ca/about-the-wrdsb/engagement-strategy-2013/.
There is a literary quiz competition. It is a worldwide competition for teams of four. The website is kidslit.ca.
The region is experiencing a budget decrease, especially at the secondary school level.
f. PRO grant: Catherine
The grant is worth $1000.
We are interested in booking Engineering Science Quest for next year, and possibly doing an environment event on a
separate occasion. Catherine will write the grant application, Jen M will review it.
g. Kindergarten Playground Committee – Brian W
The new playground will be placed just outside the end of the port-a-pac. Dale W. will be getting back to us
regarding the biggest size playground we can have on this site. The board can loan us a percentage of the cost, but
it would have to be paid back over the next 3 years. We are aiming for installation at the end of August; it will
depend on the construction for the kindie classrooms and the new gym. We should get input from the children, what
do they want to play on? Or with? As well as a survey monkey to parents.
