As set out in the section 41 of the Official Languages
Act, the OSLBP has the mandate to:

Enhance the vitality of the English and French
linguistic minority communities in Canada;

Support and assist their development;

Foster full recognition and use of both English and
French in Canadian society.
In accordance with section 42, it also coordinates the
Government of Canada’s commitment to encourage
other federal departments and agencies to
participate actively in community development and
promote linguistic duality.

The Department’s YCW-L@W of the Summer Work Experience
program of the Government of Canada’s YES aims to:
• offer students a short-term work experience
• encourage the use of basic official language-related skills
which were acquired through the SLBP
• provide a chance to work, in a host region, through a total
on-site immersion work experience, in a cultural and
linguistic environment

into the labour market in those communities
