BACKGROUND
• This is a new stream in the new Higher
Diploma in Electrical Engineering;
• This stream aims to fulfil the REW Grade B
academic requirement; and
• This stream covers the works in traction and
railway system, locomotive and electrified
trains, rolling stock and depot, and vertical
transportation system.

Objectives of the Stream
Traction & Power
• Aim at teaching students the theories of
advanced electric drives used in HK,
• Knowledge of power system specified
to MTR (1500Vdc) and KCR (25kVac),
and to their stations (ELV in BS area);
• Concept of Rolling Stock Maintenance
and signaling/protection in local
traction system.
