This document incorporates the PNC General Education Core-30 as well as the General
Education Supplemental Core categories. The Elementary Education program does not meet the
expectation of 120 credits for baccalaureate degrees at this point because of the NCATE
Accreditation and teaching licensure requirements. The modification to the degree plan is
presented as follows:





Explicitly identify an original social science elective course as a General Education
course: PSY 12000 Elementary Psychology or SOC 10000 Introductory Sociology.
Explicitly identify an original English elective course as General Education course:
ENGL 20100 The Nature of Literary Study or ENGL 20500 Introduction to Creative
Writing or ENGL 23100 Introduction to Literature.
Explicitly identify an original social science elective course as a Supplemental Core
course: PSY 23500 Child Psychology or SOC 22000 Social Problems
Explicitly identify the science elective courses including EAS 39100 Environmental
Science for Elementary Education, BIOL 32400 Natural History of Great Smoky
