Strategic Business Manager
Selection Criteria
Knowledge and Understanding
 Has a degree (or level 4 equivalent) in accounting or related field
 Has achieved or is working towards NCSL Business Manager qualification is desirable
 Has achieved or is working towards an accounting qualification
 Has demonstrated further professional development through qualifications or training
 Has significant experience of working in business administration, accounting or related
industries with experience of successfully leading a finance team in a secondary school
context desirable
 Knows and understands what constitutes high quality financial management
 Has the strategic financial management ability to develop long, medium and short term
financial plans
 Can demonstrate a flair for creating a vision of learning and ability to implement a strategy
 Has a proven record of applying and securing funding and bids
 Knows, understands and can demonstrate the ability to lead sustained improvement in
standards of finances, financial control and resources
 Has proven ability to plan projects and manage change to secure the improvement of
College resources, administrative systems, IT systems, environment and business
processes
 Has a good understanding and experience of setting a budget based on an Improvement
Plan
 Has demonstrated personal effectiveness in improving the quality of finances, resources
and facilities
 Has a proven track record of ensuring a large institution, and its operations and resources
are managed in an efficient and effective manner.
 Is able to analyse financial data and use the information to set budgets.
 Is able to create and set out a budget projections that ensures financial stability
 Has a good understanding about effective performance management, Quality Assurance
and its place in bringing about improvement
 Has experience of ensuring an institutions processes and procedures are fit for Audit.
 Has experience of preparing information for Audit
 Has good knowledge of Personnel procedures as set out in current employment law and
practice
 Has a good knowledge and understanding health and safety procedures and law relating
to staff and, buildings.
 Has good knowledge of the latest educational initiatives led by organisations such as NCSL,
SSAT

