Ms. Martin’s & Mrs. Raprich’s English 1st 9 Weeks Book Report
On Tuesday, October 16, 2012 a book report assignment is due. You will have nine weeks to
work on it. Absolutely no late work will be accepted. Book checks will be on Friday, August 24 for 10 points.
This is the grading scale for the assignment:
225-250 pages – A
200-224pages – B
175-199 pages – C
125--174pages – D
124 or less pages – F
All of the pages DO NOT have to be from one book. You can read one 250 page book or three 100 page books or any combination.
Every 50 pages over 250 will earn you one extra point.
Book Report Assignment: Write one paragraph to fully explain your response to
each question. A well developed paragraph should contain at least 5 sentences.
You will have 5 paragraphs total.
1. The circumstance that sets the book in motion is called the inciting moment.
What was the inciting moment of this book? Describe this inciting moment.
2. What character did you identify (personality traits or events that occur in their life)
with? How?
3. Did your opinions about any of the characters change over the course of the
novel? Why?
4. What do you believe is the theme of the book (the theme is the message or
moral the author is trying to convey to the reader)? What did you learn from this
book? Was it educational in any way?
5. Why do you think the author chose the title? Is there a significant meaning
behind it? Explain the meaning of the title.
Write your responses to the book report questions neatly on a separate sheet of paper. Staple those responses to this
paper that verifies your page count.
