Web 2.0
• Web 2.0 is the term given to describe a
second generation of the
World Wide Web that is
focused on the ability
for people to
collaborate and
share information
online.
Web-Enhanced Lessons
• Using web-based
tools can make it
easy to develop
collaborative,
inquiry-based
curricula that
motivates
students of all
learning styles and
multiple
intelligences.
Technology Education (2009) Grade(s):
K-2
• 7.) Use digital tools to access and retrieve
information.
Examples: online libraries, multimedia
dictionaries, search engines, directories
• Evaluating accuracy of digital content
Example: determining fact versus opinion
Technology Education (2009) Grade(s):
K-2
• 8.) Use digital environments to exchange ideas
with individuals or groups.
Examples: other states, other countries
• Producing digital works collaboratively
Examples: developing shared writing projects,
creating language experience stories
Alabama Virtual Library
• http://www.avl.lib.al.us/
• One good site on AVL for elementary is:
Which has:
• Learning Zone – for Pre-K – 2nd grade
• Elementary Level has several sections- Animal

for each subject area
Thinkfinity
• Educational content to promote literacy,
education, and technology, including lesson
plans and other teacher resources,
professional development, and links for
teachers, students, and parents.
• Website
Hotlist
• A Hotlist is an annotated, linked list of useful
websites that pertain to a particular topic. A
Hotlist can be thought of as a bibliography of
websites, a list of “bookmarks”, or a “track” of
interesting resources. The primary purpose of
a Hotlist is to identify a set of meaningful
online resources to help prevent yourself and
others from wasting hours searching the Web.
Digital Storytelling
• Digital Storytelling is an instructional approach
in which stories are conveyed in a visual
medium using digital video, images, narration,
audio files and music.
Example using Photostory 3 from Microsoft by
elementary student at Uniontown Elementary:
Thurgood Marshall
Scavenger Hunt Sites
• Scavenger Hunts for each month
Some scavenger hunts can cover topics more in
depth and use more than one site.
• Used to find specific information, not used for
critical thinking skills
• Students visit specific sites to find answers to
specific questions-
Blogs
• Online collaborative journal – real world writing
• Children love having an audience. The instant
recognition and approval that comes from a
crowd just can't be beat. Employing blogs to help
develop good spelling habits, grammar skills, and
develop a love for writing at a young age is an
innovative concept that has potential benefits.
