Course Objectives

• Develop reading skills applicable to all genres and types of reading (literary, informational, persuasive, and practical/workplace)

• Read and analyze a variety of literary genres- novel, drama, and non-fiction.

• Continue to develop writing skills by examining various writing forms.

• Read and analyze various forms of text.

• Continue to develop speaking, listening, and observing skills.

• Read and analyze a minimum of four longer works (e.g., novels, plays)

English III

25% - Tests/Quizzes

Grading

• Students may have the opportunity to retest for certain

QUIZZES.

• In order to retest, students must stay after school and review the material with the instructor prior to retesting.

• Students will be given a deadline – usually a week – to complete a retest.

• Sign up sheets in front of room.

• To teach specific skills assessed on ACT English and Reading sections through complex and embedded instruction as well as explicit practice.

• To provide students with research-based test taking strategies and to provide students with time to practice those skills in class.

• To help students achieve benchmark in English and Reading
