Att Dundie the twelve day of May jajvi fyve yeares (1675)
Which day in ane Most frequent Meetteing of the Maisters and Mariners of Dundie with ye unanimous
consent Maist Alec Dye chosen to the office in plaice of Watsone as Deacon of the said fraternity the right
Honorale Sir Charles Maitland of Stratton Thesaurer Depute of Scotland Constable of Dundie and of the
senutors of the colledge of justice who was pleased at their ernest solicitation of 40 said Maisters &
Mariners to accept of the said office to give his oath yranent and according to use & wont and he to
containue in the sd place during his all tyme Well.

following viz: Ms Patrick Lyon Admiral depute of Scotland John Kinloch Mert Mr James Husben John
Maitland collector of his Majesties customes at Dundee James Lyon mert yr and the said James
Wedderburn Clerk to ye fraternitie.

The same day the forsd persones & deacone by virtue of his power & office & with the express advice &
consent of the whole fraternitie did nominat Constituit & consent Thomas Bowar skipper & mert Dundie is
decone in forsd office of deaconrie and yt for ye space of tyme of and just twelve months after the dait of
this in custome yrof thir pnts to are subsc by me.

hereby enacts yat all seamen booked and to be booked that goes not to sea shall pay to ye Boxmaster of ye
mariners quarterlie for ye use of the poor the soume of five shillings scotts moe for (two words in margin

those pnt authorise and appoint Thomas Webster pnt Boxmaster to erect and build dyke about that
yard belllonging to the sd fraternitie lying in thbrugh ot
Dundie on the west syd of the hosppitall
yrof and
to (two words illegible) house yronn qt he sall think fitt for the best profeit and advantage
that may accrue to the poor of ye sd fraternitie and for that effort to wairkout & beston what money he
has in his hands belonging to the fraternitie. And noe by thes pnts obliges us for ourselfes & in name
of the remanants of ye fraternitie to pay to the sd Thomas Webster pnt Boxmaster &rent at Whitsunday
nyxt for what money he shall expend & give out of his coune vpon the accompt abovemntd. In

The whlk day the fraternitie of the seamen of the sd brugh having met anent the choiseing & electing
some persone of the brethren to manage the wholl affaires concerning the sd fraternitie till Candelmes
next in place of Thomas Webster the late Boxmaster hes unanimously chosen & electis Andrew Smytone,
Jon Read & George Traill to be managers of all affaires concerneing the said fraternitie till Candelmes
bext and all of ym to be equally lyable in compt & reckoning. And in case any of ym shall happen to
be at home sall manage the same. And in case they shall all happen to be furh of ye kyndomme during
the tyme forsd they heirby grant power & warrant to hey Managers to substitut any personne under they
fraternitie to serve in yr absens. The Managers being always comptable fir yr substituens.

sall happin to be abroad during the tyme forsd they whi shall happin to be at home shall manage the

power & warrand to ther managers to substitute any personne under ther fraternitie to serve in they

The whilk day the Maisters and fraternitie of the burgh of Dundie undersubscribing Doe by those pnts

house yron as he shall think fit for the best profit and advantadge that may advert to the poor of the
fraternitie and for that effect to waive out ye bestow what money he hes in his hand belonging to the
fraternitie. And we by these pnts oblidged us for ourselves & in name of the remanents of the fraternitie to
pay to the sd Thomas Webster pnt box master @rent at Whitsunday next for what money he shall expend
& give out of his count upon the accompt above intromission yrof we have subt this pnt day month place
& year forsd.

Smytone, John Hood & George Traill to be managers of all affaires concerning the said fraternitie till
Candelmas and all of ym to be equally liable in compt & reckoning. And in case any of ym shall happen to
be goe abroad during ye tyme those that shall happen to be at home shall manage the funds and in case
they shall all happen to goe furth of ye kingdom during the tyme forsd they hereby grant (word illegible)
warrant to the Manager to substitute any persone under the fraternitie to serve in ye absence. The

Smyton, John Hood and John Traill to be managers of all affairs concerning ye sd fraternitie till
Candelmas next and all of them is to be liable in compt rekoning for ther intromissions preceding
Candelmas jajvi nyntie three years & Candelmas next to come. And if any of them sall happen to goe
abroad during ye tyme forsd they who shall happin to be at home shall manage the samen and they shall
all happin to goe furth of the Kingdome during the tyme forsd they hereby grant power & warrant to ther
management & substitute any persone under the fraternitie to serve during ther absence. The

The whilk day the fraternitie of the seamen having met choseing & electing some person of ye fraternitie
for manageing the hail affaires concerning the fraternitie till Candelmas next jajvi Nyntie five in place of
Andron Smyton, John Hood & George Traill late Boxmaster have unanimouslie chosen & elected the said
Andron Smyton to be manager of all affairs concerneing ye sd fraternitie and that from Cadnelmas last
bypast jajvi nyntie four yeirs to Candelmas to come. And to be liable in compt and reckoning for ye whole
intromissions during the foresd space. And in case the (several words illegible) sall happin to goe abroad at
ant tyme during the tyme forsaid that the fraternitie hereby grants power warrand to the sd Boxmaster to
substitute any persone in the fraternitie he pleas to serve in his absence to audite Andron Symton, John
Hood and John Traill lait box masters accordingly for there accompts for ther two years bygone preceding
(two words illegible) jajvi nyntie four years and to make report betwixt and the eleventh day of March next
to com and any three of the subscribes thir pnts with (word illegible) day moneth and year of God and
place foresd.

admit and receives George Crokatt to be an of the fraternitie who compeared accompted and gave his oath
de fideli. In testimonie of have (two words illegible) subscribed this pnt day month & year first mentioned
of God were signed by our Clerk at our command.

The wch day the masters of the fraternitie of seamen of the sd burgh being presently convened anent the
electing & choising some fit persone of the fraternitie to manage the wholl affairs till Candelmas next jajvi
nyitie sex years in place of Andrew Smyton thir late box master hes unanimously of neu grant and made
choise of the sd Andrew Smitton to be ther boxmaster for the year ensuing and hereby appoynt him to
manage & guide the whole affairs belonging to the sd fraternitie during the space forsd. And in case the sd
Andrew Smyton sall happen to goe abroad wtin the space abovementd it is understood yron yat he sall
have power to substitute any person he pleas to discharge sd office during his said absence for person
said and be ansrable. And the said Andrew Smyton being pnt accept ye sd office in and upon him. and
obliest him to be comptable to the fraternitie for his intromissions and yt wt which belongs yrto and gave
his oath de fideli administrance. And the fraternitie not only continues the ander moit upon the twelve of
Febry past bypast for auditing for (word illegible) George Traill and ye sd Andrew Smyton yr Accompts for
the tuo years bypast yr past. But also for the said Andrew haven Accompts the last year. And any thre of
them to be a quorum. And the auditors to make yr report against the eleventh of March next. In testimonie
yrof thes pnts ar subscr by the undersigned and by ye sd Andrew in (word illegible) of his acceptance.

The which day the masters of the fraternitie of the seamen of the said burgh being presently convened
anent the electing of ane Boxmaster for business in place of Andrew Smyton their late Boxmaster have
unanimously of new agrie and choise the said Andrew Smyton to be Boxmaster for the year ensuing. And
herby appoint him to manage and guide the whole affairs belonging to the said fraternitie during the space
foresaid. And in case the said Andrew Smyton shall happin to goe abroad wtin the space mentd it is
understood that he shall substitute under him any persone he pleases to discharge to be comptable wt his
intromissions of what belongs thereto. And gave his oath de fideli administrione. And the fraternitie
continues the auditors appointed in the lait year for auditing of what boxmasters accompts are (word
illegible). And any three of them to be a quorum. And the sd auditors are hereby appointed to make their
report betwixt and the eleventh of March next in testimonie & by yr hand Andrew Smyton in token whereof
thir pnts are subs by the members of the fraternitie undersubscribed and by the sd Andrew Smyton in
token of his comptance.

fraternitie shall be layed out upon the affrican trades for the use of the poor hes unanimously
condescended to and impowrdd the s[ai]d Andrew Smytone boxmaster to subscribe a deputa[tio]ne
empowring [start bracket mark] any person the magistrate & cownsell [X insert for marginal entry]
[marginal entry insert] & others contibuting for [th]e s[ai]d trade [main text continues] impowerd to

money of the fraternitie of the seamen And to grant bond to the manager of the s[ai]d affricane trade for

Fotyheringhame of Baldoven. Robert Watsone mert and Alexander Rodd maryner to be members of the sd
fraternitie to compear and fulfill & gave yr oaths de fideli. And ordains Andrew Smytone box master to call

Dundee 31 March 1696
Which day Andrew Smytone present boxmaster of the seamen being conveened with sell members of ye sd
fratnty taking to their consideration the Accompts of the stock belonging to ye fraternitie and ye present
necessity in repairing of the (word illegible) belonging to the (word illegible) fraternitie have unanimously
and ascented that a little impost should be (two words illegible) effect. Thefore they hereby ordaine each
master of any Ship coming from Norroway to pay to the Boxmaster & his successors in office sex dealls of
ther portage and each seaman two dealls and ane tree from the ship all which the master of the ship all
which is ordained to be comptable for to the box master or his successors in office. And this act to
commence from Mertinmas Jajvi nyntie five years not withstanding of the dait yrof. And it is hereby
declared that they not accompt of the due is but providing of any other dues ordained to be payed by any
preceeding act. As also the Masters and mariners undersubscribing for more clearness of anything
undersubscribed on for the good of the fraternitie have ordained and hereby ordains each Sederunt to be

admitted to be frie masters and members of the fraternitie of the seamen of Dundie. Who compeared and
gave their oath de fideli . in testimony thereof Thomas Abercrombie box master and preses hath
subscribed thir pnts in absence of the Clerk.

admitted to be free members of the fraternitie of the seamen trade of the sd burgh of Dundie. Who both
compeared and gave their oaths De fideli administratione. In testimonie yrof Thomas Abercrombie present
Boxmaster and preses hes subt those pnts In absence of the Clerk, day & place forsd .

Th said Day William Mackie factor to the Estate of Elphinstone was admitted to be a member of the
fraternitie of the seamen trade of the said burgh of Dundie who compeared and gave his oath De fideli

Aberbrothick and yr diliquent dues & Lyable in payment of pounage goods money and Lights of
Buddeness before yt somever Judge or Judges compt on. And that for all bygones and for tyme coming

John Dewar Carpenter unanimouslie condiscend to (two words illegible) the sd John Dewar tuentie eight
shillings scotts money monthly during the tyme of his sickness beside his ordinare pension allowed to him

This day past the pnt members convened within the sd hall hath unanimously ordained and hereby
ordaines Thomas Abercrombie on of the present Bailies of the burt of Dundie and present Boxmaster of
the sd fraternitie to subscribe ane superioriedere in favours of my Lord Kinnaird for the soume of ane
thousand Scotts money du by ye sd Lord Kinnaird to the fratenitie. And that as fullie and frilie in all
