A word about LabVIEW 2013:
• We have lately finished installing LabVIEW 2013 on 9 machines
most running WIN 7, 64 bit.
• Up to now we have been using LabVIEW 7.1, from 2006…
• Brown has now paid National Instruments for a site license, and
we get good tech support from Nat’l Inst. of Austin Texas.
• Labs have been edited to take account of the different way the
DAQ card 6024E is accessed by the iconic LabVIEW functions
palette…
• May be some vexations and setbacks during the semester in the
establishment of LV2013 as the DAQ standard…
EN123 is a WRIT course:
• We did say there are no lab reports, right?
• But we do want you to improve your writing skills…
• As a WRIT course EN123 requires that every student write two 500 or so word
essays on themes from Bioengineering, suggested by us or favored by you…
• Make sure your essay printout is double spaced!
• That essay will be marked up for “improvements” by JD or DB and
given back to you…
• You will revise the essay taking into account the markups.
• Return your revised essay and the original marked up one… you’re finished!
• Bonus points for particularly well written essays…
• You will be able to use EN123 as proof to the Dean of the College and Associate
Dean Kathleen McSharry that in your Jr/Sr years you continued to improve your
writing…

Ethics/Quizzes/Academic Code/ABET
• There will be ten 1-question/1-answer quizzes in EN123, only one of
which you’re required to answer correctly to pass the course
• Most submissions of quiz answers are by email. Each student’s
answer is time-stamped.
• If you submit the same WRONG answer as someone else who
submitted before you, we may ask you in person to show your work…
• Regarding LabVIEW VIs, we would like to see that each
person’s/team’s VI has a different size than any other…
• Students are allowed to consult each other on how to solve lab
challenges, but should not copy work whole cloth, or “borrow” an
already-built circuit…
