Q: What does Lakes Country Training provide?
A: We offer 100% distance learning Cisco Academy Instructor training in a convenient format.
Q: Do you offer Fast Track training?
A: At this time (as of April 26, 2011) we do not offer fast Track training. The convenience and
format of the distance learning courses provides you with flexibility to take the training with
minimum disruption to your work schedule, while getting the benefit of interaction with the
class, familiarity with the curriculum, and exposure to the excellent pedagogy of our trainers. In
addition, you will incur no travel, lodging and meal expenses.
Q: I am interested in training. What should I do first?
A: Check our training schedule spreadsheet, read this FAQ and the 2011 training information.
Updates to any of these documents are available at www.lcsc.org/cisco . Contact Jim Bergquist,
jbergquist@lcsc.org , or call 218 739 3273 to let us know you would like training.
Q: Does the class require you to be online at a certain time or is it self-paced?
A: There are 8 – 12 hours of synchronous meetings by WebEx, about four of which are
mandatory. The course has a duration of 6 weeks, and requires a total time investment of 40 –
60 hours, depending on the background of the trainee. This includes time for studying the
curriculum, completing labs and other assignments, taking chapter tests, final exam and the
Skills-based Assessment.
Q: Will I need my own equipment?
A: Yes, we require that Academy instructors purchase their equipment before enrolling them in
the course. If your new equipment needs to be set up, we can provide technical support. We
also have some remote access equipment pods you can use until your equipment is functional.
Q: What is the order of the Exploration courses?
A: E1 is Network Fundamentals, E2 is Routing, E3 is Switching, E4 is WAN. The Exploration
courses need to be taken in order.
Q: What are the prerequisites for the training?
A:
1) We need a letter or email from your Dean, Principal or manager stating that he/she plans to
have you teach Cisco courses at your educational institution, or wants to have you ready to
teach. If you provide your administrator’s email or phone, Lakes Country can make that contact.
2) We will send an invoice to your institution before the training begins. Please send us the
name of a contact and street address of the business office.
3) We need evidence that you have a working lab equipment bundle. You can send us a photo
of your equipment, or a copy of the invoice you used to buy it (for example SigmaNet), if it is
still being delivered.
4) The Exploration courses need to be taken in order.
Q: Once enrolled, what is the first thing I should do:
A: 1) Look for an email invitation to the first synchronous WebEx session, and attend it.
2) Join the class community site and introduce yourself in the Forum.
Q: How much synchronous learning is scheduled?
A: Tentative schedule for synchronous sessions. Week 1 and week 6 sessions are required.
Week 1 – Introduction, introduce Community site (1 hour)
Week 2 – Build relations, check initial progress lengthy Q&A (1 – 2 hrs)
Week 4 – Difficult topics, demos, tips and hints (1 – 2 hr)

A: You can purchase training from us with a full voucher for the IT Essentials exam and two full
vouchers for the CCNA exam. You must graduate from the training to receive the voucher from
