WEEK’S TOPIC
SUBTOPIC (if applicable)
Campus Services
LEARNING OBJECTIVES (points that students should learn upon completion lesson; “Students should be able to…”)
Students should be able to identify the services available to them and how to get these services if they need
them.
RATIONALE (brief justification – why you feel the student need to learn this topic or this specific subtopic)
Since freshmen are going to be at UTD for at least this current year (some may transfer to another school),
they should know where to get help for wellness, financial services, etc. Being prepared will allow them to
make the transition from high school to college more manageable.
ACTIVITY / DEMONSTRATION / LESSON (what is the main plan for this class and what does it entail)
Students will be split into groups in preparation for the Campus Services Jeopardy. The groups will all rotate
members after each question so that everybody participates in the activity. The team with the most points will
win a prize.
Review of campus services at a glance worksheet. I will hand this worksheet out before the scavenger hunt.
The students will pair up with partners and use their laptops or tablets for the online scavenger hunt. The team
that finishes the hunt correctly and first will get to leave class early.
MATERIALS AND AIDS (what you will need in order to teach this lesson)
Personal laptop to with Campus Services Jeopardy PowerPoint
Expo Markers to keep jeopardy score
Copies of Campus services at a glance worksheet
Copies of Online Scavenger Hunt
PRECLASS PREPARATIONS (what do you need to have ready before class begins)
I will need to create the campus services jeopardy PowerPoint, split class into groups, and have handouts
ready. I will also need to make sure to remind students to bring laptops to class before hand for the online
scavenger hunt.
INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES (plan your time and give yourself step-by-step instructions for teaching your lesson)
Introduction (10 minutes) – I will introduce the topic for the week: campus services. I will ask if any students
have had experiences with the testing center, the bursar’s office, etc. Split up class into four groups for
jeopardy. I will explain the rules of jeopardy (each student will rotate after each question, points system).
Campus Services Jeopardy (25 minutes) – The class will play the UTD campus services jeopardy until all
questions are over.
Campus Services at a Glance Handout (5 minutes) – I will handout this worksheet and explain to students that
this is a tool for their own reference.
Online Scavenger Hunt (10 minutes) – Students will pair themselves up and take out their laptops for this
activity. I will handout the question sheet for the Online Scavenger Hunt to each pair. When a pair believes
that they have successfully finished the handout, I will review for any incorrect responses. If there are incorrect
responses, they will have to keep working on the scavenger hunt. If the pair successfully completes the
scavenger hunt, they will be allowed to leave class early.
EVALUATION PROCEDURES (how you will determine whether your students met your objectives)
I will keep the Online Scavenger Hunt worksheets completed by each pair to briefly review next week and
verify participation in the activity.
