Branding your resume

Plan of attack

(Finding the Job)

• Pick the companies (no more than 20 to start) you want to target

Why do you want to target them

• What can you do for them

• What can they do for you

• Research the company and the employees (especially management)

• Read bio’s of the executive team if they exist

Search LinkedIn for connections

• Anything in common with anyone at the company (personal/professional)

• Connect through a connection if possible

• Don’t send your resume from a job board!

• Cover letters can be effective

• Email or Hand-written

Projects you worked on

• Community service work

• Something else you are proud of that may be transferrable knowledge

• Listen and respond thoughtfully to questions

• Don’t rush through answers

Speak clearly and confidently (know what you know)

• Don’t ramble on into other areas not part of the question

• Have your questions to ask

• Don’t tell interviewers what you think they want to hear

• Be honest in your responses and true to who you are

• Don’t be afraid to ask interviewer to further explain a question

• Don’t make something up when you’re unsure of what was asked

• Ask for the job!

• Follow up is key!
