FROM THE ROCK PILE
It is time to get caught up on all the happenings of Macedonia UMC, “The Church
on the Lake” since the last edition of The Rock Pile. There was not an edition of the
newsletter for the month of July. As most of you know my dad made his transition from this
life to the life eternal on July 2 so with all that was happening writing the newsletter was
just not something that was a priority for me. However, it is good to sit back down in front
of the laptop and begin to reflect on all that has happened since early June.
On June 8 we had the youth choir from Smyrna First UMC, Smyrna Georgia. The
choir was some 90 plus strong with a host of adults who traveled with them. This was the
last leg of their summer mystery tour. What an amazing worship service we had with the
choir on that Sunday morning. I know that all who attended were truly blessed with the
talents of those young people and how they ministered to us that morning. Then the next
Sunday was Father’s Day but it was also the first Sunday of the new conference year. I was
honored to stand before the wonderful people of Macedonia and begin our 10th year of
ministry together. To say that we feel very honored and blessed to return for our 10th year
would be a major understatement. This is an amazing church with wonderful people and a
people that I know God has great things in store for and it is a privilege to be part of the
ministry here. God has blessed us so much over the past 9 years and I truly believe the best
is yet to come.
The rest of June and the first part of July I was very busy along with my siblings
trying to take care of our dad. As noted earlier dad made his transition on the 2nd of July so
I was unable to preach on July 6. Shortly after the 6th I began to get back in the saddle and
to some sense of normalcy. I would like to thank everyone once again for all of the cards,
phone calls and food that we received during those difficult days. This is such a loving
church and certainly my family felt loved. On Sunday night July 13 we held a listening
session for anyone who wanted to come and learn more about ABIDE. The ABIDE team
had food prepared and then made a brief presentation about what we have been doing over
the past year and some of the things that we feel God is leading us to do as a church. I
believe that the evening went well and am excited about the future and how that the ABIDE
team will be leading us into new and exciting ministries. The next excitement that came our
way was the V.B.S. What a wonderful time we had with all the children during the
weekend of July 19. I cannot brag enough about how much work was put into the weekend
and what a wonderful job that was done by all. I know that all the children that came were
touched by the kindness that was shown as well as the love of Christ that they received from
the church. We closed out the weekend with a cookout and water slide for the children (and
some of the younger workers). Once again everyone stepped up and allowed Jesus to use us
for His glory and the seeds of God’s love were planted. Thanks to everyone who had any
part in making our V.B.S. such a wonderful success!
This month the mission’s team is hosting a Bible Bowl on Saturday night August 9
at 6:00. There will be teams who will then play a Bible challenge and the winning team will
receive $100.00. The money will be directed to the charity of the winning team’s choice.
Come out and enjoy a fun night with food, fellowship and Bible knowledge. Don’t miss this
fun evening, August 9 at 6:00.
This has been a fast paced summer and the time has really flown by. Teachers and
students of all ages are making their way back to the classroom. This has been a very good
summer for us numbers wise as we have had numerous visitors in both services and this has
been the highest attendance for the WoW service to date. We have added to the membership
of our church and the excitement continues to grow. Plans are being made for the renovation
of the nursery and some clearing off of the bank down by the WoW service. These projects
and the continue guidance of the Holy Spirit will enable us to become even more effective
and attractive to those who are looking for a place to belong. Let us all continue to pray that
God will allow us to be open to His direction to become all that we need to be for our
community. Until next month continue to believe, be blessed and become a blessing!
Shalom
