Research:

State of our profession

 ‘Change Management as a discipline is growing and is generally regarded as valuable, but the industry is fragmented and in

need of standardization.

 Practitioners want certification and credentialing processes as part of the maturation of change management.’

12

We are putting the final piece in place:

A certification program

A Professional Designation

• 2015: Begin development of the

Certified Change Management

Professional™ (CCMP™)

13

What is CCMP?

How do I get one?

15

Emma and Chad obtain the CCMP designation…

16

CCMP is a rigorous test of your ability to

successfully apply change management principles

Have you invested in your personal development?

Identify it:

 4-year degree or international equivalent

 Secondary education or international equivalent (e.g., high school)

 Education level influences volume of experience required

17

CCMP is a rigorous test of your ability to

successfully apply change management principles

Document it:

 3 years / 4200 hours (4-year degree or international equivalent)

 5 years / 7000 hours (secondary education or international equivalent)

18

CCMP is a rigorous test of your ability to

successfully apply change management principles

Are you keeping current with methods and ideas in CM?

Document it:

 Identify at least 21 hours of training in change management in the last 7 years

 Must be aligned with The

Standard

 Quality Education Provider training is ‘pre-approved’

 Other training is admissible; will require additional information

 Must be instructor-led

19

successfully apply change management principles

Can you apply your knowledge and experience to new situations?

Show it:

 Answer 3 out of 5 essay questions demonstrating and applying your change management experience

 Reviewed and scored by trained assessors

21

Why CCMP?

Not just another change management certificate…

 Results from an educational process

 Usually does not require recertification

 Generally has no expiry date

 Demonstrates knowledge of

content at the end of a finite period of time, usually based on course content delivered

 Based on standards set by a thorough, defensible, industry-wide process resulting in a clear definition of required knowledge or skills

 Indicates mastery of knowledge usually assessed through a rigorously developed and validated

exam delivered under controlled conditions to ensure integrity

 Requires work experience demonstrating a track record of success

 Awarded by third-party, standard-setting organization unaffiliated with a commercial entity

 Typically results in a designation which allows a practitioner to add letters behind their name

Requires recertification to ensure the practitioner remains current through education and participation in the profession

22

Why CCMP?

Not just another change management certificate…

 ISO: Third party review

 Requirements: More than knowledge

 Experience: Track record

 Application: Exam, essay questions

 Application review by trained assessors

 Unique professional requirements

 Not the same as Learning and Development, Project Management

 Complements and enhances other professions, or stands alone

 Code of Ethics applies

 Re-certification required to ensure practitioners maintaining skills as the Body of Knowledge grows in CM

 Ongoing investment in updating The Standard

Recertification

 Certified practitioners need to continue to develop

 Education/Training

 Instructing and Mentoring

 Volunteering and ‘Give back’

 PDU system (Professional Development Units)

 Every 3 years

Market Readiness

Survey

25

We had a great variety of respondents!

31 Countries Functional Responsibility

Years of Experience Percent of Work Focused on Change Management

26

Respondents participate in many different associations and certifications

What other professional organizations are you a member of?

What professional certifications do you have outside of CM?

Top Other:

• Certified Management

Consultants (CMC)

• International Coaching

Federation (ICF)

• International

Association of Business

Communicators (IABC)

Top Other:

• ITIL

• Sigma

• Certified HR Professional (CHRP)

• MBA 27

The majority of respondents already possess at least 21 hours of CM training

Prosci is the most common source of change management education.

Other training sources included:

• University coursework

• Internal training

Reminder: Training must be aligned with The Standard for CM. Training from a non-QEP provider will be considered.

28

Our proposed benefits drew strong agreement

There are several benefits to obtaining a CCMP credential… Which of the following messages resonate with you?

Other benefits?:

• None yet, the market isn't that sophisticated.

• Separates change management from project management.

• Creates a network of professionals.

• What makes this different from the other certifications in this space that are currently out there?

29

Respondents provided excellent input for further discussion and promotion

What other benefits do you think should be promoted?

 Creates confidence for clients in selecting an appropriately qualified practitioner. "Weeds out pretenders"

 Demonstrates competence in contributing value to a business/organization

 Provides for greater consistency in process and language by promoting common foundational knowledge.

What issues and objections do you think might be raised regarding the CCMP certification?

 There are other well known certifications in the market that have been around for years. Why would I want CCMP and not another well known certification?

 The bureaucracy and cost associated with gaining the CCMP designation

 Getting national/ global recognition take time, money and effort. Have ambassadors / champions from all sorts of companies to help spread the word. And don't focus on HR practitioners specifically.

 An international accreditation for organizations like ACMP who are operating certifications

 Requires a rigorous application and approval process

 Conveys a prestigious accreditation to the certifying body (ACMP)

 Awarded after in-depth third party analysis of program operations, policies and procedures

 Requires annual surveillance

…Many global government entities prefer/require certification programs that have met the strict requirements of being

“accredited” by a third party.
