Rushee Meeting

To join DDS:
During your Rushee Semester (If you’re here, you’re “rushing” during Fall 2013 and will be a
member by Spring 2014), complete the following:
o
Must have GPA 3.0 (2.9 does not round up)
 Show to an officer (preferably the secretary for members and rushee coordinator for rushes,
since they’re the ones who will end up recording the yes/no) by the last day of class
 If you’re a first-year, GPA requirement is waived for now and you may still be inducted as long as
other requirements are met, and showing it in the Spring will count.
o
Must attend a minimum of 5 meetings (out of 9 offered)
 If you have a class during them, please email and get confirmed ahead of time that you will
make up missed meetings with points!
o
Must pay dues of $25 (for rushees) before October 14th
 They help pay for gifts for our speakers, the induction dinner, and socials.
 From October 14th to the last day of class, dues are $30. Please pay checks to Delta Delta Sigma,
to Jackson, our treasurer.
o
Must achieve 16 total service points (1 point per hour unless otherwise noted)
 2 of these points should be dental, 2 non-dental
 All events must be sponsored by DDS (we have it on our calendar on
deltadeltasigma.web.unc.edu), or have prior approval from an officer before the event takes
place.
 Submit online and throughout the year as you complete them, preferably
 Volunteering at the Hospital Dental Clinic is now worth 1 point per 2 hours volunteered (max 1
point per week) instead of 1 point per semester.
 Summer does not count, but winter points may be submitted as 1 point per event so you don’t
end up getting 40 points from shadowing with one clinic for 40 hours. We want your
experiences to be diverse, meaningful, and help you get into dental school!
Plugs/Opportunities for points:
Embracing Dental Research club meets 6pm before our meetings on Mondays and are a great
way to learn about dental research and practice discussing topics that could come up in interviews! We
sponsor these meetings as dental points, and their first meeting is 6pm, Monday September 23 in G502

Bridging the Gap is bigger and better this year with a partnership with ASDA! DDS is offering 4
dental points for each semester you are a member!
Membership is $58. Sign up for ASDA from Bridging the Gap website, and they will receive a list
of all UNC students who signed up by September 29th at 5PM. They will send out an email to those
people after September 29th asking for some info about you to match you to a mentor. Membership is
due by Sept 29th as well, and if you sell 3 boxes of whitestrips, you will be reimbursed for your
membership fee, or -$20 for each box sold.

what you’ll be doing your first year in dental school, with students who are actually doing it)

experience)
Crest Healthy Smiles – go to low income areas and help children learn dental hygiene
