TRANSPORTATION MAINTENANCE/DISPATCH

JOB POSTING

JOB GOAL: Work with the Supervisor of Transportation to provide a safe, effective and efficient transportation system; to maintain a safe, smooth functioning physical plant in which effective maintenance will be performed. To maintain all district vehicles at a high level of safe and effective functioning.

JOB SUMMARY: Diagnoses problems and repairs district buses, auxiliary vehicles and motorized equipment; repairs, reconditions, replaces parts, etc. Road tests equipment to ensure safe operation.

Must be knowledgeable of safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations and procedures relating to pupil transportation. Must possess and maintain a valid

Washington State Drivers License with CDL type B with Air Brake, School Bus, and

Passenger endorsement. Pre-employment conditions include a State Patrol check, FBI clearance, and Drug/Alcohol testing. Must submit to random drug/alcohol testing while employed according to district and state policy. Must demonstrate organizational skills and inter-personal skills necessary to work with a wide variety of people and agencies.

Heavy lifting, flexibility, and dexterity are required.

Salary: Current Teamsters salary schedule + 15% for 190 days per year; minimum 4 hours per day.

Supervisor: Bus Transportation Supervisor

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Inspect buses regularly to detect faulty operation of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or air systems and make necessary repairs to maintain safe and efficient operation in a timely manner.

Determine when major overhaul is necessary; disassemble engines or auxiliarycomponents, transmissions, differentials, brake systems. Replace faulty or worn parts and reassemble to safe working order.

Provides prevention maintenance and routine service on busses, auxiliary fleet and ground equipment.

Maintain a scheduled system of lubricating chassis, changing oil and filters, repacking wheels bearings, replacing fuel filters and air filters.

With the approval of the transportation supervisor, order replacement parts, tires and general supplies.

Assists stalled or disabled district vehicles on the road.

Prepares school busses and auxiliary vehicles for school inspection.

Maintain shop, shop tools and equipment in an orderly serviceable manner.

Maintain shop tool inventory, as directed.

 Provide reports to supervisor’s office concerning parts and equipment purchases, current status of equipment, and recommendations for bus replacements, as well as annual bus inspection reports.

Maintains records as required by the district, ESD, and the State.

Assign buses for extracurricular assignments.

Schedule substitute drivers for bus routes as needed.

Drives school bus and/or extra-curricular activity trips when necessary.

Conducts route planning and surveys in cooperation with supervisor of transportation.

Monitors and operates two-way radio.

All other duties appropriate to the position or as assigned by the supervisor.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is exposed to airborne particles and fumes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:

High school diploma, required.

Prior experience driving school bus, preferred.

Certified mechanic preferred.

Prior experience servicing school buses, preferred.

 Valid Washington State Driver’s License.

CDL type B with Air Brake, School Bus and Passenger Endorsement
