Curriculum Corner
READING: This week in spelling we will be studying consonant blends. In
reading, our story is Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night. We will be focusing
on the skill character and setting. Our high frequency words are bear, build,
couldn’t, father, love, mother, and straight. Ask your child to see if they
remember their vocabulary words this week! We will take a reading test over
the reading story and a spelling test every Friday.
MATH: In math, we will begin unit one over number concepts. We will review
even and odd numbers, place value, expanded form, different ways to write a
number, different names for numbers, problem solving, counting within 100 and
1000.
Homework
Reading: Always read for twenty minutes and get your reading log signed. This
should be done Monday-Thursday of every week.
Monday and Tuesday – leveled reader (this can count as your twenty minute
reading time)
Wednesday – reader’s choice/any book (this can count as your twenty minute
reading time)
Thursday – story of the week (this can count as your twenty minute reading
time)
Math: sent home if your child did not finish his/her independent work: some
days there will be no practice sheet sent home, if they finish in class. If not, then
it needs to be completed at home.
Spelling: - Tic-Tac Toe activities: do only ONE of these a night, if you choose.
***Remember homework is based on how many stars you choose each night. If
you don’t complete three stars or even two stars that is fine, but remember you
need to at least read twenty minutes and get your logged sign. The spelling
and math homework is a choice. Keep in mind there will always be a reading
and spelling test on Friday.
Behavior Chart
Please sign your child’s behavior chart daily. If the student is on pink, he/she
clipped up to outstanding. If the student is on purple, he/she clipped up to
great day. If the circle is light green, he/she clipped up to a good day! If the
circle is colored green, the student was ready to learn. If the circle is yellow, the
student needs to think about making better choices. Orange purple means
teacher’s choice, and red circle means contact parent. Please remember to sign
you child’s behavior chart every day.
