Objectives:
Recognize and assess the different literary genres.
Analyze different genres of literature, particularly short stories, novels, drama, and poetry.
Read literary texts closely.
Apply literary terminology to fiction, drama, and poetry.
Major Assignment: Complete reading The Awakening by Kate Chopin and complete a Major Works
Data Sheet to be turned in on your return from Fall Break.
Monday:
Please be reminded that your vocabulary list for this week is the same as last week’s.
Hand out Major Works Data Sheet for The Awakening and a copy of the novel.
Discussion of feminism and Kate Chopin.
Homework: Read “Who Were the Creoles?”. (Handout)
Tuesday:
Quiz over “Who Were the Creoles?”
Class discussion as to why this is so important to the reading of The Awakening.
Homework: Read “Creoles” (Handout)
Wednesday:
Go over Essay Questions for the AP exam. Discuss the various types of questions and what each grade
looks like. How would your essay compare to these? Why?
Homework: Read “The White League”
Thursday:
Continue the Essay Question discussion and review.
Homework: Read “The Hurricane of 1893”
Friday:
Vocabulary Quiz. Quiz over this week’s readings.
Homework: Kate Chopin’s The Awakening and Major Works Data Sheet
