Reflection
I chose my section 2 project to post on my eportfolio because it was one of
my favorite ones to write. I really enjoyed writing about my child going through the
learning phases that chapters 5-8 go over. I feel that this paper demonstrates my
experience I have in real life as a mother. I was able to incorporate some of my real
life experiences raising my own children into my paper. I feel that it showed that I
also have the ability to apply new thoughts and ideas into the paper from what I
learned in class and from the book.
The SLCC Learning Goals:
1. This class has helped me to acquire substantive knowledge for the field I
am choosing to go into when I graduate. I feel that this course has helped me to
become more disciplined in caring for my patients by learning the different theories
and about the different life stages of human growth and development.
2. I have always had a problem projecting my thoughts accurately. This class
has given me a sense getting past that. I feel that it has helped me to communicate
not only what I’m thinking in my head, but also what I have read and listened to in
class. These projects have helped me to organize my thoughts and put them in
order. I feel that I have really learned how to work on my own and as a group. These
projects have helped me to participate in discussions and analyze what other
people’s thoughts and views are.
3. In developing quantitative literacies for my necessary field I am going into,
Psychology has helped me with getting familiar with statistics, graphs, tables, charts
and studies. Erickson, Freud and Piaget to name a few, all have different outlooks,
study methods, charts and statistics. I have been able to compare the different
theories and see how they differ. I have learned just how they come up with their
theories in the first place by doing different methods. I now know what the
differences are between cross-sectional research, a longitudinal research, crosssequential research, correlation, surveys, quantitative and qualitative research is
and how to conduct each one. These are all studies that are used all the time in the
medical field, which is a great learning experience.
4. This class along with this project has helped me to become better at
critically thinking. It has made me think where I stand when it comes to the different
theorists and their beliefs and studies. I have had to think where I stand and
question why it is I believe one theory over another. This project in itself has made
me have to be creative and come up with a story and where to take it from one point
to another. When offered wild cards for the projects it therefore presented us with a
problem and how to solve it and engage it with the story line. When it comes to the
different projects it has made us as a group to really have to engage in creativity,
expression and thinking. We were able to use what we have learned and incorporate
it into our stories. We have been able to make connections and analyze different
scientific methods and inquire how to incorporate them into our projects. When you
look at it these are things that will help us in our daily lives and that sometimes we
don’t even realize we are using these methods and tools.
5. Psychology the study of human growth and development touched on so
many different culture backgrounds, economics and lifestyles, history and global
issues that can happen and develop throughout life. It has taught me that even the
smallest thing in life can have such an impact on development. The way we live has
such a lasting impact in the long run. We as adults set the scene for our children and
our teachings are what influence their outcome. It is good to learn about the
different cultures throughout the world and to teach our children that in return
because it can only benefit them. We need to take leadership and guide them to help
make a difference in the community. I have come to appreciate things on an even
deeper level from what I have learned in this class. I feel that I am on a new path of
thinking and living. It amazes me that with just some of the things I have learned
how much they have already helped me in my field of work. I am able to apply
things I have never thought of or considered in the past. These are all ways of
helping me with my professionalism and being more open minded and less
judgemental.
