Ecce Romani I textbook, Prentice Hall, Fourth Edition
Ecce Romani II textbook, Prentice Hall, Fourth Edition
Students will need the following supplies for Latin I:
- 3-ring binder (dividers are suggested)
- loose-leaf paper
- black or blue pens or pencils
*Students should bring all materials to class daily.
Grading Procedures and Policies:
-Students will be expected to learn a large amount of vocabulary in Latin II. In order to stress the need for
vocabulary study and review, students will not be given written homework nightly but will be required to study
vocabulary each day outside of school. Students should expect to take 2-3 vocabulary quizzes each week. These
short quiz grades will be combined to create one vocabulary grade each nine weeks.
-A variety of assessments will be used throughout the year to access student understanding. Students are
expected to complete and turn in work on time but will be granted extra time if needed. If students do not turn
in the work in a timely manner, they may receive Academic Detention where they will be expected to complete
the missing work.
Princess Anne Middle School is implementing an academic detention program for teachers to utilize
with students who fail to complete assigned work. Teachers will issue academic detention to students
who fail to complete classwork, homework, or other assignments for the Wednesday following the week
in which the work was due. Wednesday detentions will be held from 4:00-5:30 PM, and parents will be
notified of the detention via an AlertNow email. The purpose of the academic detention is to notify
parents of missing assignments and to ensure students complete and return work considered important
to the learning process. Therefore, students will have until the day of the assigned detention to submit
work owed. Those who do will not have to serve the detention. Students who must serve detention will
be required to complete the work owed during that time frame. Keep in mind these academic detentions
will not become part of a student’s disciplinary record.
-Students are required to participate in Virginia Beach City Public School’s AFLAP exam. This exam will be given
in two parts beginning in early May. The combined score of the AFLAP exam will count towards 1/9 th of the
student’s final grade for the course.
*Please sign up for access to the Parent Portal! The Parent Portal allows you to access your student’s individual grades
throughout the year. If you have questions on how to sign up, please contact me or your child’s core teachers for that
information! Please note that grades will be updated as often as possible. Please allow extra time for translations,
writing assignments and project grades to be updated as they require more time to be graded.

regarding this system, do not hesitate to ask me!
Procedures for conferences and parental contacts: Because I believe that a student’s success comes from teamwork
between teachers, parents and students, I encourage parents to communicate with me as often as needed. The best
way to contact me will be through email as I check this routinely throughout the day at school and home. Please contact
the guidance office if you wish to set up a conference with me.
Citizenship Expectations: All students are required to HAVE FUN and ENJOY your year in Latin II. However, to
ensure that all students enjoy this class and feel comfortable in the classroom, all city and school behavior policies are
to be followed in the classroom and throughout the school. Students should be aware of the policies regarding
attendance, tardiness, proper dress, proper language and appropriate behavior in school. Students are always expected
to be prompt, polite and prepared at every class. SELF-respect and respect for others is expected in the classroom.
Instruction and learning are top priority and disrupting the learning environment will not be tolerated.
