English I Syllabus 2007-2008
Objective: To thoroughly equip students with the literary foundation and skills needed to
be successful in the upper grades.
Grading: Daily and homework grades = 15% of average
Quizzes = 30% of average
Tests / Major Writings / Projects = 55% of average
Late Work: If students do not have their work on the due date, it will only be accepted
through ZAP (Zeroes Aren’t Permitted) with a 25 point penalty.
Make up Work: Two school days for each day of absence are allowed for make up
work. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for make up work. If an assignment was made
before the absence the work is due upon student return.
Homework: There WILL be outside readings, vocabulary, and grammar practices
assigned. The student is responsible for completing all outside work and returning it to
class on the assigned due date in order to avoid penalties including ZAP (Zeroes Aren’t
Permitted).
Sustained Silent Reading (SSR): Once a week there will be an assigned SSR.
Students should be prepared to read at least 15 - 25 minutes.
