M rs . Stanfield
Welcome to a wonderful year at Seven Lakes Junior High School! This year you will be
introduced to a program called Reader/Writer Workshop. The goal of this program is to increase
your confidence and academic success in both reading and writing. In Reader Writer Workshop
you develop strategies for reading all types of text-and at the same time, we teach you to see and
use the writing techniques you read in your texts. We want you to realize the connection
between the words you read and the words you write. Through writing projects you create and
novels you choose to read, you will see yourself grow into a lifelong reader and writer.
Some Expectations:
You will choose books that are interesting to you and that you understand.
You will enhance your reading life by reading a variety of books, short stories and articles
from a variety of genres.
You will read daily at school and at home.
You will take pride in your work.
You will participate in conferences with me to assess your progress.
You will be responsible for weekly reading response sheets during the course of each book that
you read.
