Space your reading so you aren’t cramming
Read for meaning, don’t just read the words
Try the online tests & quizzes on Quia and on the web links page and see if
they help, a couple of them are usually test questions
Pay attention in class, especially when we go over the notes
Review appendixes – they don’t seem important, but they are
Take good/thorough notes when you read! Check them against Port’s
notes when he goes over the material!
ALWAYS do the nightly reading – overconfidence kills you a lot
Have good attendance – you will do better on the tests
Participate in class – ask questions & pay attention!
Sometimes it can be hard to listen to lectures, so read the book on your
own time and take your own notes
The majority of your grade depends on how you score on tests and quizzes,
so STUDY every night!
Stay organized, and use the class website if you forget the pages to read or
other assignments
Budget your time during the tests because that’s how it will be on the AP
exam
Read the side boxes and look at the photos & captions throughout the
chapters
Use the online flashcards and PowerPoint notes to check your notes and for
studying
Listen to Portenga, because he goes over test questions and key concepts
he knows are on the test
Tests are specific and use a lot of examples; vocabulary words aren’t
enough – Read for understanding and ask if you don’t understand a
concept! You will need to apply it on the test!
Know how all of the people (scientists/psychologists) relate to all of the
concepts
Go see Portenga if you need help with something. He is always happy to
help you!
