Instructions: Using an atlas, locate where the four Atlantic provinces are based on their
lines of latitude and longitude. Find the latitude and longitude for the most northerly (A),
easterly (B), southerly (C), and westerly (D) points. Put the answer in each box. Put a dot
(•) where the four provincial capitals are located. Label the four provincial capitals.
Remember:
All coordinates in North America are NW.
Latitude lines run east and west and measure north or south.
Longitude is lines that run north and south that measure east or west.

Instructions: Make sure you understand what relative location means. Describe the
relative location of the Atlantic provinces in relation to Canada, North America, and the
world.
Instructions: Describe the location of the Atlantic provinces in relation to two of the
following: bodies of water, nearby provinces and states, ocean currents, the prime
meridian, the equator, Europe, Mexico, Japan, Latin America, Caribbean, the Atlantic
Rim.
Remember to explain relative location in terms of distance and direction from one place
to another place. General terms can be used; for example, Place A is just north of Place
B.
