Brief summary of other service or experiences that you think support your nomination:
I don’t know that I have any service that supports my nomination, but I do quite value professional
development, since it is vital to my position as the web developer for the UNR Libraries. Standards and best
practices are constantly evolving in the Web, as are development tools, third-party services, trends in social
networking, user expectations for functionality, and so forth. As a result, I’m required to keep an eye fairly
steadily upon the realm of web design, and to be an active participant in the community of library web masters.
This entails, amongst other things, attending and presenting at conferences such as Internet Librarian or the
convention of the Library and Information Technology Association. I know that web design isn’t special in this
regard, and that all professionals employed in an academic environment must be plugged in, so to speak, to
what is happening within their discipline. More than that, it often requires a time commitment to ensure that one
can maintain the proper pace of professional development required for the execution of the responsibilities
either explicit in or intrinsic to their job description.

Brief summary of other service or experiences that you think support your nomination:
Working as an Extension Educator, means my role is to take a wide-range of knowledge areas from the
University and apply it to the needs in the community. I could provide the committee a view point of how
university work off campus can enhance programs for years to come. I originally worked on national programs
in Canada, with the company Pulse Canada, coordinating research between institutions and obtaining funding
for special crops. In this role, I worked with research groups globally and gained an understanding of the
benefits of interacting with foreign research. With this past experience and my current role of running an office
of 5 staff from both university and county funding (which I negotiate for directly), I can provide an
understanding of how to handle the day-to-day operations while a professional has been temporarily assigned
elsewhere.

Brief summary of other service or experiences that you think support your nomination:
I am still in the early stages of developing a service history. My most consequential College service so far has
been with the Religious Studies Board devising new curricular guidelines and recruitment strategies. For the
Anthropology department I’ve served on the Graduate committee and the Media and Public Relations
committee. Working for the latter I helped to revamp the department web page, and was subsequently
individually tasked with composing a pamphlet the department distributed for graduate student recruitment. My
university service consists primarily in my work on the Social Science Core Curriculum Committee—reviewing
syllabi for consistency with the program and making recommendations during the program review. To my
professional organizations my service has so far consisted in reviewing manuscripts, organizing and chairing
panels, serving as guest editor of an academic journal—the relevance to the professional leave committee in this
case is the fact that I am currently very much in touch with the demands of professional development from
having recently played a variety of roles in relationship to the development, dissemination and publication of
research.
