Oh Lord, our Heavenly Father, we come to thank Thee for the blessings Thou has bestowed upon
us. We ask Thee to be our shield of protection and to make our lives such that they may be examples
for others to follow. Help us at all times to be kind and honest, and to do those things which are

OFFICERS’ REPORTS
A. Basileus 1. Soror Jones led the meeting. Soror Bryan was attending the Atlantic Region Conference
during this time.
2. Soror Bryan sends her thanks to all the Sorors that sold Ads for the 40th Anniversary Gala.
Ads are the main source of proceeds for the event. Please don’t forget to sell your tickets two for the
event.
3. Since one most the chapter is MIP certified, we will move forward with intake. If you have
not been recertified, you cannot participate in the MIP process. The next time to get certified is at
the State Conference.

B. Tamias – To avoid a National late fee, please pay $250 of your Sorority dues by October 26, 2103.

Crabfest, $1,285 40th Gala Journal Ads/Patrons, $2,655 40th Gala Tickets/Tables, and $25 Coat
Drive.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Amenities – The committee recognized the following birthday for October: Soror Alicia Grant.
The committee recognized the following anniversaries: Sorors Shari Pearson and Sheveir Ross.
Special recognition to Soror Deidra Boykin for 28 years of Service. The committee also reports the
following amenities: Sympathy flowers were sent to Soror Miesha Suber for the passing of her
grandparents.
B. Intake & Reclamation – Soror Jones send eight eligible interests personal data sheets and she
passed copies to Sorors in attendance. The chapter will be voting on the interests during the
November Chapter meeting. Soror Jones encourages all Sorors to come out and get to know the
interests at events. Soror Clark was concerned about the new membership intake rules that the
Chapter should be careful and make sure we get to know the interests before we go to far or vote.
Soror Jones ensured the chapter that the chapter does not have to vote on an interest just because we
asked them for a personal data sheet.
Proposed Intake Calendar:
September – Saturday, 28th: Send Personal Data Sheets to interests
October – Sunday, 6th: Receive Personal Data Sheets and unofficial transcripts from interests;
Saturday, 12th: Present Intake calendar and interests to chapter.
November – Saturday, 2nd: Ice Cream Social, 1-3 pm; Saturday, 9th: Chapter votes on interests;
Saturday, 23: Notify interests about obtaining two official transcripts and $1,500 and send letters of
interview date for December 7th.

December – Saturday, 7th: Interviews; Sunday, 8th, Distribute Packets, Assign one slide PowerPoint,
and distribute breakdown of fees; Tuesday, 10th: Receive Packets from interests and issue “quick
reference card”; Wednesday, 11th: Send packets (with money) to National 1st Anti and send electronic
copy to State Director; Saturday, 14th: Receive approval from National 1st Anti (assumed date);
Sunday, 15th: Introduction to chapter, Spec assignments, and start course of study (see possible
timeline below).
January – Sunday, 5th: End course of study; Saturday, 11th: Ritual/Celebration and complete
evaluation forms and send to 1st Anti.
Study Sessions:
Week 1: Friday, 20th or Saturday, 21st, Give poems (due Week 2 Session), include EPZ questions in
Week 1, and Take test.
Week 2: Friday 27th or Saturday, 28th, Give Collage assignment (due Week 3 session), recite poems,
and Take test.
Week 3: Friday 3rd or Saturday, 4th, Present Collages and Take test and final exam?
C. ZHOPE /March of Dimes 1. Veterans program, October 5th, at 6:30 am, did not occur due to the government shutdown. We
will try to reschedule.
2. Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk, October 6th: The chapter participated and the event was at
Six Flag American in Upper Marlboro, MD. Two Sorors and four non-members attended. The
chapter raised $200 and if you would still like to make a donation for the month of October, please
contact Soror Clay or use the emailed Making Strides Link that was sent out.
2. Rainbow Place Donation in October/November: The chapter will be collecting supplies for the
Rainbow Place, 215 West Montgomery Ave, Rockville, MD 20850. The supplies needed are cups,
instant hot chocolate, instant coffee, napkins, bowls, and hot/cold paper cups. Supplies will be
collected at the October and November chapter meetings.
3. Mt Calvary Baptist Church HBCU College, October 19th, 9 am-1:35 pm. The chapter will have a
table to pass out information about EPZ to attendees. If you are interested, please sign-up by signing
the sign-up sheet.
4. Montgomery County Service Day, October 26th, 9 am – 1pm: The chapter will partner with
Montgomery County PHC for the Interfaith Clothing Center project. If you have any clothes would
you like to donate, please bring them to the event.

5. Wells Robertson House, November 19th, 6-8 pm: The chapter will be purchasing dinner for the
residents and participating in a college seminar.
6. Montgomery County Women’s Center, November 30th, 11am-1 pm: The chapter will be
partnering with the center to provide lunch and a donation.
7. Krav Maga Class, November 2nd: This event is being rescheduled and a new date will be provided
in the future.
8. Elder Care Initiative, today at 2pm at Arcola Towers: The first of a three series event.
D. Youth – The Youth are having their meeting today from 1-3 pm, at the East County Community
Center. The Youth Open House is scheduled for October 19, 2013. Sorors are welcome to come
out and support this event.
E. PHC –
1. Meetings: The monthly meeting was held on October 3, 2013 and was hosted by Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity, Inc., Silver Spring, MD Alumni Chapter.
2. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 7:30 pm and will be hosted by
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Theta Omega Omega Chapter.
3. Upcoming Events: College Fair, Mt Calvary Baptist Church, Oct 19, 2013, 9am-1:30 pm;
Montgomery County Community Service Day, Interfaith Clothing Center, October 26, 2013, 9:30
am; Annual Homeless Resource Day, Thursday November 7, 2013, 9 am – 3 pm, at the Activity
Center, Bohrer Park, 506 South Frederick, Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20877, and An Evening of
Jazz, November 16, 2013, Elks Club in Rockville, MD, Tickets are $50 and each chapter is
responsible for 10 tickets and payment of three tickets is needed by October 26, 2013.
F. Amicae – Amicae Monthly Meeting is today at East County Community Center. The Amicae
calendar is prepared for the Sorority year. They have a fundraiser selling cards and have an upcoming
a bus trip on May 10th, 2014. The flyer about the bus trip will be sent out in a week or so. Soror
Owens will send Soror Tyson the Amicae Calendar so that it can be added to the chapter website.
Soror Owens will coordinate with Soror Bruce, as Amicae will complete their own ZHope Reports.
G. Social Action –
1. Adopt-A-Road cleanup is scheduled for October 19, 2013, 9-11 am.
2. The chapter will not participate in the paper shredding this year due to conflicting schedules.

H. Chapter Socials – The committee sent an email to the chapter referencing the upcoming social
event to David Busters. Please check your email for details.
I. 40th Anniversary – Ads are now closed. Please sell two tickets. All money is due October 25,
2103. Sorors wear all blue or all white gowns. The chapter will no longer be entering the room
together. There will be a seating chart. Soror Clark will contact Soror Corujo to see if she would like
a gym membership certificate as a give-a-way for the Gala.
J. Scholarship – Applications will be available at the College Fair, Mt Calvary Baptist Church.
K. Founder’s Day – A play: A Sisterhood is Born & Reception is scheduled for January 19, 2014,
from 2:30 – 4:30 pm at Mt. Cavalry Baptist Church, 608 Horners Lane, Rockville, MD 20850. Soror
Corujo needs a few Sorors to volunteer to play non-speaking parts of the Sorors that did not want to
join the Sorority. Please contact her if you are interested.
L. Fundraising –
a. Mardi Gras Party venue, Gold Room Banquet Facility, Glenarden, MD is confirmed. The
date is Saturday, Mar 1, 2014, from 10pm to 2am. All logistics for the event are in the works. The
flyer should be available next month.
b. Crabfest will be scheduled for July 26 or August 2014. The plan is to have the event after
Boule because there may be two Sigma events and other events that could conflict. The primary
location is East County Community Center and the Phil Community center is the alternative.
OLD BUSINESS
None.
NEW BUSINESS
A. The budget needs to be approved for the Sorority Year. Motion made by Soror Owens, “I
move we accept the 2013-2014 Proposed Budget as printed”. Seconded by Soror Watson. Motion
Passes.
B. December Chapter Meeting is the same day as the Maryland State Legislative; therefore the
chapter meeting needs to take place on another date. Motion made by Soror Clark, “I move we

C. Misc. Soror Watson wants all Sorors in the chapter to share their educational accomplishments
so that the chapter can recognize them. Two Sorors graduated, Soror Clay, Masters of Art in
Community Counseling and Soror Grant Masters in School Counseling.
