MEMO OF UNDERSTANDING REGARDING DOCUMENTATION OF COURSE SUBSTITUTIONS
Approved by Academic Council 06-17-08 (update 04-23-13)
1. The freshman seminar course may be substituted by any other course for transfer students entering a
college other than University College with more than 30 hours. VPAA approval is not required for this
substitution.
2. Substitution forms are not required for courses that have been renumbered. Documentation of this
renumbering should be made within the system.
3. VPAA approval is not required on substitution forms for courses listed in the Louisiana Board of Regents
Articulation System. Visit for http://appl008.lsu.edu/BOR/Articulation.nsf/TransferMainPage?OpenPage to
research acceptable transfers.
4. VPAA approval is required only when requesting substitutions for the following GENED requirements. Note
that many programs specify which GENED courses to take within the discipline. If a department substitutes a
program course requirement for another course (which also happens to be a GENED requirement), VPAA
approval is not required. For example, a program may require HIST 101 but then allow a substitution of HIST
256 for HIST 101. This would require departmental approval only because HIST 256 is already an approved
university GENED course; thus VPAA approval would not be necessary.
