Night 4-Sentences - Read each sentence below. The underlined word in each sentence contains
a stem from this week’s list. Using your knowledge of the stem’s meaning and context clues,
guess what the underlined word means. Then, look the word up and write the dictionary’s
definition along with the part of speech the word is used as in the sentence.
1. England is, or once was, ruled by a monarchy.
2. The boy used the insecticide to get rid of the ants eating his mother’s garden.
3. The scuba diver collects aquatic species.
4. The television’s sound was barely audible.
5. The trapeze artist captivated the audience with his high-flying act.
6. The design was incised into the oak door with a carving knife.
7. The porter will take your bags to the train.
Night 5– Writing –
When was the last time you were incredulous (“in” means not and “ous” means full of)? What
happened to make you feel that way? Write about a time when you were incredulous. Be sure to
tell in your memoir why you felt that way. Your answer should show you understand the
meaning of incredulous. Use at least 10 stems from List 2 in words. You may use sample words
from the list or other words containing stems from List 2. Highlight, underline, or circle your
words with stems.
