“Veterans Day Prayer”
Leader: God of peace, we pray for those who have served
our nation
People: and have laid down their lives to protect and
defend our freedom.
Leader: We pray for those who have fought, whose spirits
and bodies are scarred by war,
People: whose nights are haunted by memories too
painful for the light of day.
Leader: We pray for those who serve us now, especially
for those in harm’s way. Shield them from danger
and bring them home.
People: Turn the hearts and minds of our leaders and
our enemies to the work of justice and a
harvest of peace.
All:
Amen.
*THE APOSTLES CREED: 881
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven
and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was
conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin
Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the
dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the
right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence
he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.
*universal
*THE GLORIA PATRI NO. 70
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy
Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall
be, world without end. Amen. Amen.
THE ANTHEM
Chancel Choir
An American Hymn arr. Cecil Effinger
O beautiful for spacious skies,
for amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
from sea to shining sea.
O beautiful for pilgrim feet, whose stern
impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
across the wilderness.
America! America! God mend thine ev'ry flaw.
Confirm thy soul in self control, thy liberty in law.
O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
and mercy more than life.
America! America! May God thy gold refine,
Till all success be nobleness and ev'ry gain divine.
O beautiful for patriot dream that sees
beyond the years,
Thine alabaster cities gleam undimmed
by human tears.
America! America! God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood,
from sea to shining sea.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy
name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on
earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive
those who trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.
