LDFA 2012- AT A GLANCE
OVERVIEW
Sindh, the most resourceful province of Pakistan, is blessed with a host of attractive business
and investment opportunities. Sindh’s agri-economy contributes 23% to the country’s GDP.
Keeping in view global food security concerns, its vast agricultural expanse has the capacity
to become region’s food basket. Introduction of technology, efficient irrigation systems,
hybrid seeds, quality pesticides and modern implements can help attain its true potential.
Local and foreign investors have shown keen interest in this sector. The huge gap between
Sindh’s aquaculture, livestock, dairy and agriculture production and the capacity to process
the same provide opportunities for various types of investments in value addition.
The Government of Sindh have taken various initiatives in terms of subsidized financing,
technological support, research & development and capacity building of farmers. The
Livestock sector contributed 11.4% to GDP in 2009-10. Pakistan earned USD 717 million
from leather exports in CY09 and a meager $96 Million from meat exports.
There is a huge potential in the Livestock, Dairy, Fisheries and Agriculture sectors and
province of Sindh with abundance of these resources, have the tendency & capacity to
produce more and generate more income from these sectors.
After the success of Livestock, Dairy and Fisheries Exhibition & Seminar 2011, Sindh Board
of Investment have organized its second edition in Karachi on 28th & 29th January 2012 to

He added that countries like United States, France, Netherlands, Germany, United
Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Italy, Belgium and Spain are major players/exporters of
products in Agriculture and its sub sectors. He instilled that although Pakistan is an
agriculture based economy but a wide gap lies between yield, productivity and export
earning of Pakistan compare with other countries. Mr. Chairman told that there is a
gap for Technological advancement, adaptation of efficient and effective methods of
production, value addition and establishment of cold chains. He assure that he believe
if technologically advanced methods for production and preservation will be adapted
and replicated in Sindh than we would be able to earn our due share.
