Ancient Egypt

We are the Ancient Egyptians

You really have to admire us.

We built the mighty pyramids,

And we invented papyrus.

Three thousand years ago

We were the world’s top nation.

We’ll tell you a bit about ourselves,

For your appreciation.

We write in Egyptian writing,

It’s called a hieroglyphic.

We write with pretty pictures,

Isn’t that terrific?

We made the giant pyramids

Triangle shaped, not square.

If you go to Egypt now

You can still find them there.

Egyptians worshipped many gods,

Like Ra, the god of the sun.

There was Horus and Monthu,

Anubis, Seth, Shu,

And the most mysterious god, Amun.

The Nile is the longest river,

The Nile floods every year.

It’s the lifeline of Egypt;

Watering the crops that are near.

With the head of a pharaoh

And the body of a lion,

Guarding the Great Pyramid,

The Sphinx stands taller than a pylon.

We are the Ancient Egyptians

You really have to admire us.

We built the mighty pyramids,

And we invented papyrus.

Three thousand years ago

We were the world’s top nation.

We’ve told you about ourselves

That’s our presentation.

Recitation Rubric

Our kings were known as “Pharaohs.”

There were many through the years.

We’ll tell about the most famous one.

Please perk up your ears.

One of the most famous

Was the Pharaoh Tutankhamen.

He could have been a great king,

But he died very young.

Mummies were once former Pharaohs,

Now dried and wrapped in linen

They’re laid to rest in pyramids

Treated with spices and resin.
