Graded Assignments
Exams
The course will contain three midterms and a final
examination. The exams will include multiple choice and
true/false. Each midterm will be worth 50 points and the
final - which will be comprehensive - will be 100 points.
Arrangements must be made to take the examination during
another time period other than scheduled. These
arrangements need to be made before the exam is given.
NOTE:ALL EXAMS WILL UTILIZE A SCANTRON (882-E) WITH 100
QUESTIONS (50 ON EACH SIDE). THE SCANTRONS CAN BE
PURCHASED AT THE BOOK STORE AND ONE FORM MUST BE
BROUGHT TO EACH EXAM WITH A #2 PENCIL.
Quiz
The course will contain one 15 point quiz at the end of the
second week.
NOTE: THE QUIZ WILL UTILIZE SCANTRON 815-E.

Laboratory scores will be based on a maximum of 100 lecture
points or about 25% of your total lecture points. At the
end of the term, your laboratory % score based on quizzes,
data sheets, prelabs and advertising claim experimentation
will be multiplied times ~100 points to obtain your
laboratory points total.
Reports
I. Analysis Report
One analysis report will be required on the article
entitled "Of Mites and Man" (Found on ERS). The
analysis will entail describing how the scientist
followed the Scientific Method in researching ear
mites. All of the six parts (Observation/Question,
Hypothesis, Prediction, Experimentation, Data/Results,
& Conclusion) of the Scientific Method need to be
listed as titles. Then underneath each title a
description of how the Scientific Method was followed
should be described.
II. Summary Report
One "Short Summary" report from a current (2000-2004)
scientific journal, newspaper or website will be required
during the term relating to a topic in biology. Each report
will be at least 300 words including an introduction,
discussion, conclusion and proper citation of your
