Welcome to Unite
Unite is an online tool used for collaborative projects at the University of Utah. Using your U of U
network ID and password, you can access Unite from anywhere using the Internet and a Web
browser. You can use Unite as a secure way to:

create a collaborative project workspace

collaborate on a document using versioning

track and re-use information that you and others generate while you work together

subscribe to folders or documents so you can track changes as they occur

search for items based on a wide variety of keywords and criteria

discover better ways to work together (learn more)
Browser Requirements
Unite is a browser-based application, requiring you to have access to an active Internet connection
and browser. Most functions are not browser-specific; however, there are some limitations of which
you should be aware:
PC Browsers

Internet Explorer (6.0 or above) or Firefox recommended.

"Edit in Place" and "Web Folders" functionalities are Internet Explorer specific, and will not
function in other browsers.
Mac Browsers

Firefox is recommended.

Safari is not recommended.
Logging in to Unite
1. Navigate to www.unite.utah.edu and click the Login button.
2. Your browser will display a login screen. (Note that the appearance of the login and other screens
may vary somewhat based on your browser type.) Enter your UNID and CIS Password, and click
Enter.
3. The system will verify your credentials and display your "My Page" dashboard. NOTE: You must
have a Unite account to log in. Current faculty and staff at the University of Utah should all have
accounts. Student accounts can be requested by sending an email to:
account_unid@unite.utah.edu. Include the student’s name, uNID, and sponsoring organization in
your email. New student accounts are active the next business day after the request is made.
Accounts for collaborators external to the University of Utah can also be requested by emailing
account_poi@unite.utah.edu.
Unite User Guide
Users can access the online Unite User Guide from any screen within Unite; just click the Help button
on the menu bar. The guide provides an overview of the many ways Unite can help you to collaborate
more effectively with your colleagues. NOTE: If you wish to print the Unite User Guide, you can
access the PDF version of the user guide from your “My Page” (under Group Links, All Users).
Unite Training
In addition to the Unite User Guide, there are several training options:

An online orientation to Unite will be live in May. This online orientation accomplishes the
following: (1) familiarizes users with the Unite interface, database structure, and navigation; (2)
shows users how to use the Search tool; (3) teaches users to upload and work with
documents; and (4) demonstrates how to incorporate discussions into everyday workflow to
build a more comprehensive knowledge base for your group. You will be able to access this
training via a link from the online Help, or from the Research Administration Training Series
site at https://education.research.utah.edu/.

An in-person “Introduction to Unite” course is being offered by the Brain Institute through the
Research Administration Training Series (RATS). This introductory class will demonstrate
ways in which research administrators can integrate Unite into their workflows to streamline
and simplify pre-award and post-award grants administration. Specific topics include the
structure and capabilities of Unite; creating private workspaces; working with content;
versioning documents; and the time-saving document approval process. Upcoming training
