WELCOME TO TY COCH NURSING HOME
Welcome to Ty Coch Nursing Home, we do hope you find your placement
with us useful and a positive experience of caring for people in a Nursing
Home.
This introduction pack has been developed to help you settle into the
placement as effectively and efficiently as possible.
The directors ensure through their governance arrangements that the quality
and safety of our residents is at the forefront of our agenda and that plans are
put into place to continuously improve and develop the service. For this to be
effective, the senior management team review the provision of care with our
residents, their families and other stakeholders. Therefore we are interested
in your experience and thoughts on your placement. Therefore we would ask
you to complete the questionnaire which can be found at the rear of the file
toward the end of your placement and put in a sealed envelope addressed to
me.
If at any time during your placement I can be of any assistance, please do not
hesitate to come and see me, my office is located on the ground floor in the
original building, near to the kitchen. If I am not available, the receptionists
will be able to arrange an appointment.
Many thanks
Lynne H Ryan
Registered Manager and Matron

Pronounced Tee Corkh, the building is appropriately named “Red House” in
Welsh.
Ty Coch opened on 1 November 1989. Originally a large Edwardian
residence with extensive gardens, the property was developed into a nursing
home registered to provide sixty-nine beds (with 57 single and 6 double
rooms), all of which benefit from en suite facilities.
We are very proud of the reputation we have built over the last two decades,
and we continue to explore new ways in which we can maintain our innovative
approach to the care we offer.

medical or therapeutic treatment, physical and mental welfare, cultural,
psychological, spiritual, emotional and social needs. Ty Coch’s residents are
encouraged to participate in the development of their individual care plans
and the involvement of family and friends, where appropriate, is highly valued.

to deliver the highest standards of care, according to their role. These high
standards are maintained through the implementation of a continuous staff
training programme. This also ensures that Ty Coch is in line with the latest
initiatives and developments in care practices and compliance with
appropriate legislation and registration authority guidelines.
Privacy and Dignity
We recognise the immense changes residents and their loved ones face
when moving to a care home and, to minimise the impact of these changes,
we promote the philosophy of individual privacy and dignity, coupled with a
‘shared living environment’.
Ty Coch endeavours to retain as much privacy and dignity as possible by:
 Helping its residents to personalise
and equip their rooms as they
wish.
 Valuing each of its residents as an
individual and a respected member
of the ‘shared living environment’.
6
 Providing its residents with keys to
their rooms and a secure place for
valuables.
 Assisting its residents to maintain
dignity through their personal
appearance and behaviour.
 Giving its residents the opportunity
to have privacy when receiving
visitors, making telephone calls or
opening and receiving mail.
 Promoting activities that
encourages its residents to
express themselves as individuals.
 Securing all its residents’ records
and information and respecting the
confidentiality of those records.
 Helping its residents to overcome
any shortcomings they may
experience through age or
disability.
Independence
At Ty Coch, we value the importance of individual independence and
recognise the issues that group living can bring. Ty Coch encourages all its
residents to act and think as individuals by:
 Maximising their opportunities for
self care.
 Having regard to one’s own well
being and the well being of others.
 Providing the opportunity to
express individual views on the
care provided and to contribute to
their own care plans.
 Using appropriate assessments of
level of risk.
Freedom of Choice
We recognise that every service user should have the opportunity to choose a
care home that will meet both their needs and offer the care they require.
Individuals should be given the opportunity of exercising their right of choice in
all aspects of daily living. To facilitate that choice we will:
 Provide comprehensive
information about Ty Coch Nursing
Home and the quality of services
available.
 Obtain a needs assessment for
each resident prior to living at Ty
Coch.

statement of terms of conditions
and residency.

residents, friends or family may
have about Ty Coch and the care

happy to make available a copy of our latest or earlier reports. You may
