2007-1: SAT I Articles Syllabus
Purpose- To teach students to understand the primary purpose of the author in
his or her work of prose, and also the stylistic devices used to effect this purpose.
The prose works will be similar to those expected in the Reading Comprehension
Section of the SAT I.
Activities- During every 2-week intervals, students will be expected to have read one
prose work, taken a vocabulary quiz, and written an argumentative essay.
Both the
vocabulary and essay components will revolve around the biweekly reading materials.
The vocabulary quiz will be taken in every 1st class of the 2nd week when the
discussions are to be completed.
And secondly, the argumentative essay, similar to the
essay writing section of the SAT I, will be due by 7 PM at my office on the 4th floor of
this building.

30% Term Tests (mid-term and final term test)
30% SAT-1 Essays (Twice a month, plus revisions -- in clear file)
40% Daily evaluation (Vocab quiz twice a month, punctuality, English in class):
Web pages, Clear Files, Consultations, follow-through on Referenced Problems. A wellmanaged clear-file (revisions and chapter notes) and a prolific web-page portfolio will be important
factors in your daily evaluation. One polished (revised) web-page on each essay topic (as well as the
hard-copy) due prior to term-test – points deducted for late papers.
