Calculating time already in court-ordered out of home care
Step 1
Go back to the last time the child was at home without any court order in place;
orders before this time before this do not count
Step 2
Note the date that the child was first placed in court-ordered out of home care in
column 1 of the table below
Step 3
Note the date that the child was returned to parental care in column 2 of the
table below
Step 4
Add up the number of days between columns 1 and 2, not including the first
day, and place that in column 3
Step 5
Note the type of order in column 4
Step 6
Repeat steps 2-5 for each time the child was placed in court-ordered out of
home care
Step 7
After each additional period in court-ordered out of home care, add the total to
the previous cumulative total and place that in column 5
Step 8
Include periods in out of home care during any IPO with a reside as directed
condition but note that there is ambiguity at this stage as to whether this time
will count.
