Base 1 – Crisp tasting. Teams are each given 5 different crisps to taste. Before the activity they should elect a spokesperson to give the team answer. The only answer accepted is the one given by this person. The first answer they give is the only one acceptable. Each member of the team should taste each crisp before they decide as a team which answer the spokesperson should give. Only one crisp per person! There is 2 points for each correct flavour they give, to a maximum of 10 points. Please mark this on the team’s score card and also on your check sheet. Equipment needed: Crisps, 5 numbered containers, pen/pencil Base 2 – Knot Tying. The team are asked to tie a series of knots. They can choose who can tie them, but one person is NOT allowed to do them all! 2 points are awarded for each knot they manage to tie correctly. If they are not able to tie any of them then at the end they should be shown the pictures of the knots and asked to identify them. If they can identify the knot, and one of them can then tie it from the picture, they can have one point for each knot they identify and tie. Knots can be done in any order. Please mark score on the team’s score card and on your check sheet. Larks head, double overhand, clove hitch, sheet bend, reef knot. Equipment needed: string, knot pictures, pen/pencil Base 3 – Blindfold jigsaws. One person volunteers to be blindfolded. There is 3 minutes allowed for this activity. The team have to direct the blindfolded person to correctly make up the jigsaw puzzles. The 4 piece one should be completed first, and then the larger ones. The blindfolded person can change between puzzles, but once a puzzle is started, that person must complete that puzzle. Only the blindfolded person may touch the puzzle pieces. Puzzles should be put out only when the blindfold is in place! Points awarded as follows: 4 piece puzzle completed – 2 points 6 piece puzzle completed – 3 points 9 piece puzzle completed – 5 points If a puzzle is part completed, then at your discretion, points may be awarded as appropriate to the amount of the puzzle completed. Please mark score on the team’s score card and on your check sheet. Equipment needed: Blindfold, puzzles, timer/watch, pen/pencil Base 4 – 2 hands on 3 people activity. The team should divide into either 2 groups of 3, or a 3 and a 2. They should then link arms, and only the end arms that are not linked can be used for the activities. Thus the person in the centre of a 3 can only advise, not actually use their hands. Activities to be completed: Cutting out a flower Tying a bow Threading a needle (they should cut their own length of cotton from the reel) and tying a knot in the end of the cotton Making a fortune teller. As each team will have spilt into 2 groups, each group should attempt 2 of the activities, with the order of people being shuffled between the activities, so that all get a go at using one hand. There is 3 minutes allowed for this activity. Points – 2 points per completed activity, with a bonus of 2 points if they complete all 4 activities. Equipment needed: 2 pairs scissors, card flower, needle, cotton, card shoe with lace, paper for fortune teller, instructions for fortune teller, watch/timer, pen/pencil Base 5 – Standing bottles up. There are 3 minutes allowed for this activity. There is a ‘fishing rod’ with a ring on the end. Girls should stand behind a given rope line, and try to stand up the coke bottles by looping the ring over the neck of the bottle and then pulling to stand up the bottle. All team members should have a turn with the rod. At the end of the 3 minutes there are 2 points for each bottle standing up. Those that have been stood up and then subsequently knocked over don’t count!!! Maximum of 10 points available. Please mark score on the team’s score card and on your check sheet. Equipment needed: Coke bottles, fishing rod, watch/timer, pen/pencil, rope for ‘line’ Base 6 – Pencil in bottle. There are 3 minutes allowed for this activity. The first person should tie the lace round her waist, with the pencil dangling behind like a tail. They should then position themselves so that by squatting down they can lower the pencil into the bottle. Other team members can encourage and direct, but not touch the bottle or pencil. Once the first person has completed this, the pencil lace should be passed on to the next person. 2 points for each time the pencil is completely in the bottle. Equipment needed: pencil on string, bottle, watch/timer, pen/pencil Base 7 – Throw ball into bucket Team takes it in turns to try to throw the ball into the bucket, from behind a given rope line. Points are only scored if the ball doesn’t bounce out again. 3 minutes are allowed. The team should organise getting the ball back after each throw. 1 point for each time they get the ball into the bucket, to a maximum of 10 points. Equipment needed: Bucket, ball, rope for ‘line’, watch/timer, pen/pencil Base 8 – Feely bags Team should feel items in the bags, and make a list of what they think are in the bags. The list should be done by agreement, not just one person feeling! Maximum of 3 minutes allowed, but this may not be needed. One point for each item correctly identified. Please mark score on the team’s score card and on your check sheet. Equipment needed: Feely bags, paper and pencils, watch/timer. Base 9 – Kim’s game Team is allowed to look at items on the tray for 30 seconds, before they are covered up. They then have 2 ½ minutes to write down the items. 20 items on the tray, 1 point for every 2 items they remember and write down. No half points! Please mark score on the team’s score card and on your check sheet. Equipment needed: Tray, 20 items, tea towel, paper, pencils, watch/timer. Base 10 – Flower identification Team to identify 10 flowers from pictures given. One point for each correct flower. This can be done verbally, but they must elect a spokesperson who will give the answers, and only the first answer given by the spokesperson is acceptable for gaining the point. Please mark score on the team’s score card and on your check sheet. Equipment needed: flower pictures, pen/pencil Base 11 – Patron Saints. Teams to match up the picture of the saint, to the saint’s day, which country they are the patron saint of, and the other piece of information about the saint. Maximum score for all correct is 10 points. If not all correct, points according to how much they have got right. A maximum of 3 minutes allowed. Please mark score on the team’s score card and on your check sheet. Equipment needed: Saint’s cards, pen/pencil, watch/timer Base 12 – Long handled spoon. Teams to take it in turns to dip the spoon into bucket of water which is next to them at the start line. Water must then be transferred to the measuring jug, which should be placed the length of the handle away behind the line. People may not cross the line – the spoon must be held at arm’s length to tip the water into the jug. Points are awarded according to how much water is in the jug at the end of 3 minutes. If the jug is tipped over before the end of the time, only the water in the jug at the end of the time is counted. Please mark score on the team’s score card and on your check sheet.
