TORAH  The Hebrew meaning is "law" or
"instructions."
PENTATEUCH  Greek word meaning "five
scrolls," "penta"= five

#1. GENESIS: means "origins."
This book begins with the creations story and
ends with Joseph.
#2. EXODUS: means "departure."
This book begins with the Israel's flight from
Egypt up to God's covenant with the Israelites on
Mount Sinai.
#3. LEVITICUS: made up of instructions for the
priests of the tribe of the Levi.
#4. NUMBERS: name is derived from the 2
censuses (survey) of the Israelites.
#5. DEUTERONOMY: means "second law."
This book is a repetition, expansion, and the
completion of the "first law," given at Mount Sinai.
It takes the form of a series of instructions by
Moses before the Israelites can enter the
Promised Land.
