2014 Campaign –“ Stick with Foncho to make Bananas Fair”.
“Bananas have been at the heart of Fairtrade since they appeared on
our shelves 13 years ago. Together we have achieved a huge
amount, with over 1.2 billion FT bananas being sold in the UK each
year. Despite the achievements there remain serious problems at the
heart of the banana business. That’s why the fairtrade fortnight marks
the launch of a special campaign that aims to transform the banana
industry to ensure those at the sharp end of the supply chain, the millions of strugging
banana farmers and workers get a fair deal ” (www.fairtrade.org.uk)

MAN THE CREATURE
57. Q. How should man treat animals and other fellow creatures?
A. Man should honour the Creator in other creatures and treat them carefully
and responsibly. Man, animals, and plants have the same Creator who
called them into being out of love. Therefore, a love of animals is profoundly
human. Although man is allowed to use and to eat plants and animals, he is
nevertheless not allowed to torture animals or to keep them in inhumane
conditions. That contradicts the dignity of creation just as much as
exploiting the earth thoughtlessly out of greed.
