This course is split into two authors, W.G. Sebald and Haurki Murakami. I want to get a
sense of the world from the writings of the great losers of the second world war, a
German and a Japanese. The films we will be watching in conjunction with the readings
are from all over the world.
Students will be expected to do their reading at home. Weekly summaries of their
reading are expected. Discuss the movies in class. There will be a midterm essay and a
final essay.
