Assignment Four – Self Introduction Speech
Students will use descriptive language and organizational skills to write this speech.
• Topic: Give the class a brief introduction to your life.
• Speech should have an attention getter, body, and conclusion.
• Follow a time line of your life.
• Conclude with your future goals (job, marriage, children etc.).
Time: 1-1:30 minutes
Use Index Cards
Students will give their speeches during the next class. Turn in your index cards after you speak.

Make a time line of your life. Also make a time line of what your goals are for the future.
Example (see timeline graphic below):
Timeline of your life: *1998 born *1998 baptized *2003 started school at OLGC *2011
made the OLCG basketball team etc.
Timeline of your future goals: *Go to Catholic Central *Go to University of Detroit Mercy
*Become a doctor *get married *have seven kids etc.
Step Two
Make an outline of your lifeline.
Use topics and sub topics. Example:
1. In 2001 my baby brother was born
a. His name is Jim
b. He is the fourth child in our family, I have two older sisters

Make sure your outline is on index cards
Practice your speech
While you practice your speech make sure you practice your eye contact
Make sure you don’t speak too fast
Make sure your pronounce your words correctly
Don’t forget the conclusion with your goals
Extra Credit
If you practice your speech out loud for a parent, guardian, or other adult, I will give you 5 points extra
credit.

A hamburger has three main parts-the top bun, the meat, the condiments, and the
bottom bun. Your speech should also have three main parts as well-the introduction,
the body, and the conclusion.
I. Introduction - Attention Getter.
II. Body - Talk about your life.
III. Conclusion - Tell the audience about your future goals.
Use note cards to write your speech. As you write add details-NEVER use the words “things,”
“stuff,” and “you know!” Use specific language instead, in other words tell us exactly what
you mean.
