What part does the organization and we on
the local level play in the scheme of things?
We are talking about two completely different
functions. First on the uppermost levels we are
a voice for veteran’s issues and a source of
support and guidance for our infrastructure from
National to local levels. We make our concerns
known at the local level and they are passed
upward. Second is the community and local
post membership support and activities. We at
the local level contribute to the growth of our
community by supporting local charities and
activities and promoting Americanism and
teaching the values so dear to being an
American.
Who goes to the conventions?
Each post, district, etc. will appoint delegates to
a convention. In reality the delegate list is used
for preregistration (reduced rate), voting and a
head count for the host.. All members are
encouraged to attend all conventions. The main
difference is that onsite registration cost a little
more and if you are not a delegate, you cannot
vote.

What is a Post Executive board meeting?
Officers and executive members. Meet to
conduct the government and management of the
Post Business. Only the officers and executive
members can vote. All members are invited but
a member can only speak if recognized by the
Commander. Motions and information are to be
passed on to the membership meeting to
provide an opportunity for discussion/rejection.
What is a Post business meeting
Officers, Executive members, the General
membership and guests. Think stockholder
versus membership meetings. Motions or
minutes made at the executive meeting should
be read. Minutes made at the executive
meeting should be read and must be approved
by the General Membership.

Post History
Post 17 ‘s original charter was accepted by the
Department of Texas July 29, 1919 and
accepted by Congress May 27 1921.
The first Home was on Jordan Street a block
north of the courthouse. The next meeting place
was a tin building where Putt-Putt Golf is
located. It was a small building just a place with
few tables and chairs, a soft drink and soda/beer
box. Payment was based on the honor system.
The property next door was purchased later and
the meeting hall was added in 1980 and paid for
by 1990. The kitchen and offices were added in
the 90’s. Later he parking lot was repaved and
the walls of our building resurfaced with stucco.
What kind of help is needed?

about a donation.
