Duties: The Executive Officer is a key point of contact for Australian Fossil Mammal Site (AFMS) Naracoorte, located in South East South Australia. AFMS - Naracoorte is a serial World Heritage
Area (WHA), co-listed with Riversleigh in North Queensland for its internationally significant
megafauna fossil values. The Executive Officer role provides administrative, project and
management support to the AFMS – Naracoorte Interagency-Community Reference Group (hereafter
known as the IRG) which provides advice to the Director National Parks, Department of
Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR). Community consultation is a key component
of the role and the Executive Officer helps the facilitation of opinion, advice and response to the State
and Commonwealth World Heritage Area managing agencies when required.

responsibility for the MRV Ngerin. The role is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of
the MRV Ngerin, liaising with the Diving & Marine Services Manager over staffing, cruise schedules,
slipping and other vessel related issues, assisting research staff with logistical planning for cruises and
liaising with research staff on board the vessel in delivering quality support to SARDI Aquatic
Sciences’ scientific program.
Essential Minimum Qualifications: The incumbent must hold a Master 4 Trading Certificate and a
Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 Certificate
Special Conditions: This is a term contract for 2 years. The role is based at the SARDI Aquatic
Sciences North Arm Store, Gillman, South Australia. The incumbent may be required to work at the
South Australian Aquatic Sciences Centre, West Beach. The employment operates under the Marine
Research Vessel “Ngerin” Industrial Agreement. An allowance of 80% is payable in lieu of all
penalties incurred whilst working overtime, shift, or weekend work. The area of operation includes
South Australian coastal and adjacent marine waters and the incumbent will be required to undertake,
on average, 150 days at sea each year. At sea periods may at times be continuous for extended periods
of greater than 14 days. Possession of a current driver’s licence and a willingness to drive is required.
A Senior First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain one, is essential.
