Elmer the Elephant
Read the story and talk about the meaning behind it- it is ok to be different and
unique.
Elmer speech bubbles- 40-60 months writing a caption
Elmer repeating and other pattern work
Making an Elmer paper plate- focus on pattern and colour recognition
Colour by number sheets
Design their own unique Elmer elephant in any pattern they wish- collage,
painting, wax crayons…
Counting elephants
Making different patterns from squares of paper on large elephants
Bead threading, pasta threading… pattern making- repeated patterns

The Hungry Caterpillar

Read the book and look at how many of each item he eats and why he needs
to eat so much food…he will become a butterfly!

Maths- writing our own hungry caterpillar book- how many of each item he
eats- they decide.

Making a large scale caterpillar on a roll of paper outside- using balloons and
paint.

Bead threading.

Egg box caterpillar with written and visual instructions

Painting a pattern on a butterfly- look at symmetry

