INSTRUMENTATION & SCADA TECHNICIAN

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Instrument/Control: Responsible for plant operation regarding instrumentation/control and computer equipment in the treatment plant and associated systems. Accurate examinations and highly technical decisions must be made involving treatment processes with regard to Instrumentation and SCADA.

Thorough knowledge of computer process control and SCADA in water plant operations. Must have skilled technical experience in the operation and maintenance of a municipal Potable water treatment plant production.

Considerable knowledge of tools, instruments and equipment used in a variety of mechanical, electrical and electronic trades. Computer skills are a must.

Candidate must be skilled in the operation of test, communication, and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Accurately assesses instrumentation/control equipment status

including calibration and adjustment. Monitor equipment

operational status and performs, coordinates repair with system

integrators, contractor, and plant staff.

2. Troubleshoot all types of instrumentation, including issues with

operation, calibration and resolving issues with tech support to

keep systems up and running.

3. Troubleshoot VFD I/O and configurations to either correct or work remotely with vendors to determine solutions.

4. Troubleshoot all PLC I/O through to the SCADA system driver, database and displays for evaluation of operator issues.

5. Discern I/O status from PLC input/output modules, troubleshoot issues with discrete and analog inputs to PLC’s via panel

schematics, PLC lights, power breakers and fuses.

6. Recommends alterations in equipment, operating processes and

schedules regarding Instrumentation and SCADA systems.

7. Develops and facilitates operator, mechanical and

instrument/control training programs for plant operators, mechanics

and support staff under the direction of Chief Operator/Supervisor.

Physical Demands: Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Must be able to enter and re-enter Authority vehicle.

Math Skills: Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to: Work with algebra and geometry.

Computer Skills: Windows XP operating systems expertise and Windows 7. Experience with computers, operating software, configuration and setup and networking,

Language Skills: Must have developed language skills to the point to be able to: Read and comprehend English (policy manuals, memos, letters, books, journals, instructions, rules and regulations, etc.). Write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar. Speak with poise, voice control, and confidence using correct English and wellmodulated voice.

People: Taking Instructions - Must be able to understand instructions and to communicate with supervisor about work questions, company policies or safety problems/procedures. Must be able to communicate with customers and the general public. Tact and diplomacy must be used at all times to assure a positive company image.

Things: Handling - Using body members, handtools and/or special devices to work, move or carry objects or materials.

Other: Uniforms/Safety Shoes: Employees in this position are required to wear company furnished uniforms and must supply and wear safety shoes at all times when on duty.

Safety shoes must meet, at a minimum, the following criteria: (a) Sole - Puncture resistant

urethane, chemigum or vibram rubber; (b) Upper - Full grain cowhide leather.

Tennis/athletic shoes are not approved safety shoes regardless of upper construction.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

- Experience with GE Fanuc iFIX SCADA software and use of existing database and display configurations in troubleshooting of existing systems.

- Remote I/O over Ethernet expertise

- Experience with Allen Bradley Control/Logix hardware, programming software and ability to utilize for troubleshooting of existing programs.

- Rosemount transmitters experience.

- Some experience with being able to use RSLogix software to view existing programs for I/O troubleshooting PLC’s is a plus.

MINIMUM QUASLIFICATIONS

- Graduation from an accredited high school with two (2) years trade’s formal training with emphasis in mathematics, physics and five (5) years Industrial

Instrumentation and controls experience.

- BS Degree Computer Science or AS/AE Degree in Instrumentation Technology,

Electronic, or related field desired.

- Valid Florida Drivers license.

- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, be able to read and understand drawings, technical papers and take/understand direction from engineers, director, manager and supervisors. Safety is paramount.
