POLICE ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION CRIM151
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course examines the organizational framework, authority
structures and major function of representative police agencies.
Analysis is made of the administrative problems of allocating
responsibility and support functions and or coordinating many large
and small area commands. Recruitment, career advancement and
selection of leadership are areas of special comment.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. Outline the responsibilities of administrator/police executive
positions.

Discuss the general principles of organization and modern management techniques.
2. Apply administrative and leadership skills and understand the goals
and purpose of police service.
3. Discuss the role of communication and ways to enhance the
process.
4. Identify the decision making process involved at various levels of a
police organization.
5. Discuss the importance of motivation and several motivational
theories related to management.
6. Discuss the positive and negative aspects of discipline.
7. Define the difference between complaints and grievances and the
steps to resolve them.
8. Discuss conflict and the impact it has on organizations. Methods
of conflict resolution will be discussed.
9. Explain the procedure for a formal evaluation system.

Student absences in excess of 10% of scheduled class meetings will
generate a written warning. Further absences may result in withdrawal
from the course or a reduction of 10% grade. This is in conformance
