HERA
HARLAND ESTATE RESIDENTS’ASSOCIATION
Promoting a Community Spirit and a Healthy
Environment…
Incorporating Sheldrick Close and Nos. 160 – 226 Brangwyn Crescent
Resident Involvement web page on Merton.gov.uk,
FORWARD FROM THE HERA OFFICERS AND
COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Firstly, we wish to express our deep gratitude for the support
received from so many neighbours who have supported HERA’s
progress this past year.
HERA is at the beginning of a very long journey. We arrived at this
juncture in the way established or well-known Association typically
do. Many factors converged to support the need for a stronger voice
in Harland Estate in the current composition of HERA.
HERA is a new association that faces particular challenges in
achieving consistent and effective progress on project management
as few people carry the whole burden; the composition and scope
of each project vary, as does the speed at which they should be
achieved. The current officials have spent much of last year gaining
a fuller understanding of these shortcomings, and we are confident
that together, we can navigate HERA’s goals and administrative
landscape to effect a meaningful change in our community.
By what increments can we reasonably set expectations and
assess progress?
At this early juncture, we have set-up goals for this year and a
significant progress has been made this past year which HERA can
claim credit for. Among which are:









Replacement of the communal benches in Sheldrick Close
Residents’ parking only signage
Road safety awareness signage.
Extra litter bins around the estate
Estate effective cleaning.
Estate notice board
Replacement of the dilapidated estate map
Management of the recycle bins around the estate
Flowering plant pruning

What we require from you/ your voluntary involvement is
highly requested
Participation, this is the requirement that HERA looks forward to
from all the residents of Harland Estate. Your participation can be
likened to an investment in supporting a systematic approach to a
community development and diversity which comes only by creating
a culture of mutual participation that permeates the entire
community.
We must work together within the association to ensure that HERA
gets the most out of, and be the best, a truly and truly inclusive pool
of estate voice and face. It is clear to me that this kind of
institutional commitment brings changes that happen person by
person, decision by decision, and flat by flat until the entire estate is
affected.
Thank you for honouring our culture today and your continual
support in the coming year.
We look forward to working with all of you on these important
challenges and to report annually on the Association continual
progress
Besides, as people with a passion for a community spirit and a
healthy environment; we believe there is still much works to be
done in transform this Estate. Some of which are:






improvements in the management of recycling bins
The control of loose dogs
Better lighting to improve safety around the estate
Multipurpose room for Harland estate/residents
A play/ sports ground for the estate/residents.
Flowering plant to beautify the estate
Also, in the pursuit of our aim, we have decided to create a
fun forum for all the neighbours which is what we call HERA
Fun Day; it would take place this summer. This would widen
our vision and broaden our horizon. Besides, it’s an avenue to
exhibit our forthcoming projects, solicit support and, allow for
membership and partnership with other relevant
establishments.
Much more, Fun day would enhance good rapports and
friendliness amongst the neighbours which encourage
participation that threatens the real issues confronting the
development and retention of this association.

HERA OVERVIEW
The Harland Estate Residents’ Association was formed on
13/03/08 and represent Sheldrick and Branwgyn Crescent
(No. 160-226), in total covering 182 properties.
“Harland Estate Residents’ Association came about through
the current chairpersons’ (Moses Salisu) initial passion to
bring the neighbours together in the spirit of unity and
harmony ones a year in the open area within the
neighbourhood. After about two solo organized get-togethers
(“Barbeque Fun Day”), some neighbours were encouraged by
the innovation and became passionate too.
In the light of this, the Housing Officer at the time heard of this
“Barbeque Fun day” and advised that we take a step further
by consulting Consultation and Communication Team, so that
we can form a registered association for recognition and
support.
Aim of the group
To continuously encourage and increase RA membership
in the area.
